What I like about Sport mode is:

  • It takes off in 1st gear smoothly without being brash or jerky.
  • Excellent for drag racing from a standstill.
  • Comfortable even with the suspension is on Sport setting.
  • No obnoxious pops and bangs. Especially after living with the secondary cat delete for the last 6 months, the backfires can get tiresome after a while.
  • It double de-clutches on downshifts.
  • You can use it comfortably in traffic as it won't downshift into 1st gear until you slow down to 2km/h.

How about you lot? Who else uses this mode?
Anyone here actually like to drive with the exhaust on quiet sometimes, too?
No, I still don't use Sport outright. Only for the suspension in my Individual mode in conjunction with all other settings in their Sport+ equivalent and transmission in M, which I use for highway and open road driving when the roads are not too twisty. I find it very well balanced between comfort and agility for faster spirited driving, but I also have AMG DYNAMICS in Pro in addition. I have to put the suspension in Sport+ if I start hauling it around corners hard, though.

Around town I prefer the suspension in Comfort. My transmission has actually adapted really well to town and city driving in Comfort mode. It never downshifts to 1st unless I come to a full stop, and it pulls away and shifts smoothly, particularly since I had gotten all the AMG Drive Unit updates. They really made a difference. I still suspect the dynamic engine mounts weren't doing their job properly before. Changing my front rotors to the Brembo full-floating rotors recently also allows me to come to a much smoother stop now. The stock brakes were just kinda sucky for smooth braking at low speeds. The more I'm driving around with the new Brembos now the more I'm loving it.

Yes, on longer highway journeys I keep the exhaust closed, but otherwise it's open all the time. I open it manually in Comfort mode.

What year? The PFL has only two modes for the steering. Comfort and Sport. Not sure which modes use Sport. In the FL, the steering is tied to the AMG DYNAMICS mode, which has four modes (Basic, Advanced, Pro and Master (S only)). They are tied to Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Race in that order, or individually configurable in I*. I only use Basic, Pro and Master. I don't feel much of a difference in the steering alone between Pro and Master, but the car dynamics overall are different between Pro and Master. In Basic, the steering is lighter and more comfortable.

I drive the Porsche. She drives the AMG. I always drive mine in Sport. By accident it came out she drives hers in Sport also.

Oh yep......... Do you put the exhaust on loud when u use comfort or do u keep it on closed all time? Some times for me it feels like the car is more quick & responsive with exhaust valves closed........ is it just me????? 😬😬😬

Weird shifting in Sport

Something strange happens in Sport mode (prefacelift) 🧐

When I use the paddles to shift down from 2ND gear into 1ST gear ie. to engine brake, as I'm coasting to a stop the gearbox overrides and shifts up into 2ND again whilst coasting.

It will then eventually shift to 1ST when I stop.

Anyone else notice this in Sport? Very annoying 👎

Sport shifts similarly to comfort mode. Neither spend hardly any time in first gear. I only paddle shift in sport+, race, or individual for this reason.

I'll admit that I use Sport Mode because I didn't know any better until I started reading this posting. Now I've been able to set up my "Individual" mode thanks to you forum members. Very much appreciated for all the info and advice

Haha sweet. Sport is my favorite mode now. Best as a default mode in our cars 👍

I use Sport mode only while warming up the engine. Once the engine and the transmission are up to normal operating temperature I put it in Sport+.
