C63S performance exhaust.

I’m ordering a C63S coupe in two weeks to have a modern high tech muscle car. I also take road trips and want to minimize exhaust sound at that time. Do the two exhaust options sound about the same in comfort mode or is the performance exhaust louder in comfort mode? If close to the same in comfort mode I will order the performance exhaust.

You will 1000% regret NOT getting the performance exhaust, trust me.

perf exhaust sounds quieter with closed valves than the stock exhaust

I am ordering a Sedan, and I know they recently made the AMG Performance Exhaust a standard option on the vehicle. Not sure if it will be optional on the Coupe, but be sure to check with your dealer. Kind of freaks me out looking at the build sheet with no AMG Performance Exhaust listed on it given it is standard (it is the most important option in my opinion!).

It should show on the build sheet regardless.

I thought that too and mentioned it but the dealer said no bc it is standard. I told him it is the most important option and a deal breaker, and he said he will check again. He said he could not add it to the list because it is standard so he must have certainly attempted to add the code. It's a major dealership so I remain optimistic.

You want to see CODE U78 on your factory build sheet.
It is listed in the UK brochure, however, not on my DEALER order sheet.
Check the US DOG also.

The standard/non-performance exhaust is quiet while cruising on the highway, especially in Comfort mode. The only time the non-performance exhaust will be louder when cruising is when getting aggressively on the throttle.

With the performance exhaust (PE), you control the volume with the push of the button. With the non-performance exhaust, the volume is controlled automatically by the car depending on the driving mode and throttle position. The PE cars can be forced to be quiet or loud whereas with the non-PE cars the volume changes for you. Depending on the exhaust button setting, PE cars can be loud at idle and quiet(er) at full throttle, but with non-PE cars you are basically stuck being only quiet at idle and only loud at full throttle.

As I mentioned earlier it is not on my official dealer order sheet / build sheet, either. My dealer mentioned that in Germany they use that sheet and make a more revised one - I assume it is this one that the U78 code will show up on along with the other standard features. I believe that would be the Factory build sheet that you're talking about, correct? I have not ordered a vehicle before so I am not too familiar with the entire process.

I ordered a week or two ago. on the updated dealer sheets, it shows as standard. It does not show at all on my build sheet either. I was concerned and we went through and double checked existing builds which all show it versus my build. The only thing we can think of is that it is standard as of September on new cars, but there have been several lags in updated the way build sheets look--I mean, they haven't even updated the configurator to show the 2019s yet.

Performance exhaust is one of the major must haves we see here at the dealership. We’ve lined up cars with and without PE next to each other for comparisons on more than one occasion. The difference is certainly worth mentioning.

If you need any help with your order let me know.

2018 E63S Wagon
Standard To Performance Exhaust Conversion

I recently purchased an E63S wagon with (unfortunately) the standard exhaust. Has anyone either a.) switched to the performance exhaust or b.) switched to an aftermarket exhaust? I'm concerned about my warranty if I go aftermarket.

Thanks!

Good to know. Unfortunately, mine is a 2018 without the Performance Exhaust.

So correct me if I am wrong, but if one does not have the performance exhaust, can't you still change the drive modes to sport or race and the exhaust is louder? Especially before a cold start?

You certainly can. The downside - driving in Sport+ or Race modes - especially around town - is a bit frenetic. Would be great to have the same sound in comfort or Sport modes.
