C63 vs C63S maintenance cost

I’m having trouble finding posts that compare maintenance over time with these 2 cars.

I’ve heard mb charges $1000 for each rotor for the S compared to $200 each for the non-S. Does this include labour? Are there aftermarket rotors that close the gap? Brake pads should be the same right?

Any other differences in maintenance for the two?

Just had my rear brakes done on my c63 non-S...

OEM Rotors: $180ea --> $360
Porterfield pads: $119.95 for 2 sets
OEM Sensor: $10
Labor (3rd party): ~$150

So about $640 for rears...

C63S has 2-piece rotors. You can put a one piece rotor on the S without issue. Be prepared to get some push back with BS like “your car will not drive properly and be unsafe” but it’s all untrue. Only real advantage of 2-piece rotors are that they are a lot lighter.

The only difference between the S and non-S is in the front brakes. The S rotors are larger than on the non-S.

The rear brakes are identical between the two cars (except for the color of the caliper).

Below are the parts numbers for each rotor:

231-421-18-12 : front rotor for S (red calipers)

000-421-20-12-07 : front rotor for non-S (silver calipers)

231-421-15-12 and 231-421-16-12 : front rotors (left and right specific) for ceramic brakes

231-423-02-12 : same rear rotor for all three brake types

You can look the parts up online to see approximate pricing.

Does anyone know a manufacturer/part # for the one piece rotors that would fit on a C63S?

this is the factory C63S front 1 piece rotor

This is the 2 piece rotor which is floating and looks way better for about 1/2 the price .You can find a listing on ebay that sells the cheap and they are a factory rotor with the same marking

No, the C63S rotors are 2 piece. The rotor is one piece and the hat is the second piece, however they are only semi-floating, meaning they float only vertically. What you replaced them with are full-floating 2 piece rotors, which float both vertically and laterally. They are attached with springs to the hat that allow them to self center between the pads and laterally expand due to the thermal forces. There are aftermarket 2 piece full float rotors as well for the C63/S. I will consider these when the time comes. I've replaced the stock semi-float rotors on my current RS5 with aftermarket full-float rotors and they do make a difference. Brakes remain more consistent under different temperatures and produce more even pad wear between the inside and outside pads.

I still have the stock rotors and they don't come apart , they are 1 piece . Do you see anyway of seperating the rotor from the ctr hub in the picture I posted ? I still have them and they are 1 piece as far as I can tell

Correct, they don't come apart. They are attached with a fixed connection to the hat, but are made up of two pieces that are connected together vs a rotor that's made out of a single piece. Also, the hat is made out of aluminum where as the rotor is cast iron. So 2-piece or composite rotors as AMG calls them mean that hat and rotor are two separate materials and then connected together. You can see that by the gap between the hat and the rotor, which limits heat transfer to the hub and allows the rotor to expand vertically, because it's only attached to the hat by these small joints. A 1 piece rotor is a single piece with no gap between hat and rotor and is made out of a single material.

There are two ways of connecting the 2-pieces. Either semi-float, the rotor and hat don't come apart, but the rotor can expand vertically independently of the hat, and full-float where the rotor is attached with springs to the hat. These come apart and allow vertical and lateral expansion independent of the hat.

And for visual comparison here are the 1-piece C63 (left) and 2-piece C63S (right) rotors side-by-side.
