Question New C63S Delivery...to a different dealer?

I'm in CA and purchasing a new C63 through a dealer in NY. I'm told I can have the vehicle shipped directly from Germany to a CA dealer/VPC as long as the car hasn't entered production yet. The CA "pickup" dealer will just have to agree to deliver the vehicle for me as a courtesy.

Has anyone done this before? Is there a hard cost/significant inconvenience for the pickup dealer in this transaction, or is it just an inconvenience? Trying to determine if there is anything other than wanting to do this out of the kindness of one's own heart involved...

If any dealers in SoCal (or even central California or within a 5-6 hour drive radius of Los Angeles) are reading this, would you be willing to have my car shipped to your dealership for pickup? =) Please message me...

When I was ordering mine from MB of San Jose, they had to transfer an available allocated vehicle to their since this dealership was out of the allocations (to my knowledge). Once they did that, which took 15 minutes (via a phone call), I was able to put my built together and submit my order.
Try calling my SA; he's very knowledgeable and he should have better answers for you. He's the only one who puts most of the builds together for that specific dealership.
His name is Tedi and he can be reached at mansourt@autonation.com

I work for a dealer. What happens in that case is the NY dealer actually pays a fee to the local dealer who does the delivery for you. Its a decent amount so the local dealer really doesn't mind it. We do them frequently.

thanks! but when you say the NY dealer pays a fee are you talking about something under the table or something else behind the scenes? Because according to MBUSA, the NY dealer can actually have the car delivered directly to the CA dealer from Germany...or are you referring to the $995 destination fee that gets paid to the CA dealer?

No its a fee that the dealer in NY pays for the local dealer to courtesy deliver you the car. Its a fee among the dealers, has nothing to do with Mercedes Benz. Even though its going to the CA dealer directly the sale is still going to the NY dealer. I'm assuming the paperwork you did was all for the NY dealer correct?

Yes, correct. The NY dealer gets the sale and all paperwork is done through them but the order is changed to be delivered to the CA dealer.

May I ask what the cost is between dealers? And are you saying it's a standard fee? negotiated? a one-off?

Thanks. So just to confirm, if my NY dealer changes my custom-build order to be delivered to a CA dealer directly from Germany (i.e. no car transport companies involved here), there is a "mandatory" fee that the NY dealer pays the CA dealer for this "hassle"? There are no actual hard printed costs involved? Such as the destination charge, which is still charged and paid by me to the NY dealer? In other words, this fee between dealers does not get charged back to any actual expense, but is rather a negotiated "convenience fee" between dealers?
