The front mounted intercooler assemblies on the 19 onwards C63's are even more exposed than the pre update cars, so there's more chance of debris caused damage.
International shipping available.

Hopefully you don’t get another stone strike.

These AMG heat exchangers are very weak and unprotected.

The ARE Cooling heat exchanges are approximately 5 times stronger.

Anyone know of any aftermarket grills that would offer better protection? Zunsport in the UK makes some nice looking woven wire grills for E63’s but not for C63’s.

Update: the car is still sitting at the dealer 3 days now stranded in Charlotte.

It is looking like one of the coolant pumps got messed up as well and is not actuating. I am going to see if this part is in stock. We are not going to have it done today if we do not have the part.

No, it is consequential damage from loosing coolant. The part is $378 and the labor is $429.
I can overnight it and have it here tomorrow.

Same thing happened to me. Rock hits radiator, coolant leaks out, pump burns up. I can’t believe with all the sensors there’s not one to detect low coolant levels/ pressure.

Mercedes picked up 1,000 of the bill which left me with 1500 to pay. Left radiator was toast and then the coolant pump went out and made me pay for that as well. I feel like that should have been covered under warranty.

My transmission looks OK but is it normal for oil temp to be this high? Stop and go traffic for about 30 minutes this morning.

201F is completely normal, if not a little on the cool side. Commuting in summer weather here in TX, the engine oil temp is usually ~215F.

I have heard of one member being covered but in the US but here in Australia not covered from what I’ve heard, not in my case and many others with punctured heat exchangers.

Good luck to the OP, no one wants to see their car over heat... I replaced my 3 front facing heat exchangers from ARE Cooling after getting a puncture aposed to replacing with the fragile AMG items.

Drew designed and fabricated these for me and are available as direct bolt on replacement with no modification.

Hi,

I am here because unfortunately am experiencing the same thing. The car is booked to go into MB on Friday but since I had the small puddle underneath the car, coolant in the tank up top, and soaring gearbox temps of 122C I am not holding out hope that it will be covered by warranty/an inexpensive fix.

I am reaching out to you because if something has to be replaced I would much rather replace with a stronger item. I have been on ARE website but cannot seem to find what I am after. Are you able to supply me with a link? I am in UK so hopefully can get it shipped here.

Many thanks,

Well I hope you get it sorted soon.

Ive been on many cruises since having these heat exchangers fitted and have Ilya couple of folded fins.

These are super strong and hold a couple of extra litres of coolant in the system.

RDO247, thanks for the head's up about your previous thread.

I dunno how you managed that. This is my second 2017 C63 S Edition 1 Coupe, and I already paid $1,747.37 in 2018 (when I had the first car) to replace the coolers due to road debris. Now I'm in the same hole AGAIN, and they're asking $2200 for replacement of the trans cooler due to a pinhole leak from road debris. I'm PISSED. Reaching out to MBUSA Rep as mentioned in RDO247's thread. Hopefully I get some positive response like some of the others have...

I have exactly same problem with a GTS, now on second failed radiator, contacted MB USA, absolutely useless, just talk from a script, did you get anywhere with them ?

So I spoke to a rep from MB Customer Care. They escalated it to a supervisor. When that lady basically said no *through the initial rep* and didn't even bother calling me, I FLIPPED out. I was like you can't even call me back and tell me why you denied my request yourself? Cuz I wanted a justification being that:
- This was the second failure, not my first (and I paid for the first)
- It's a documented problem (on this forum)
- Others have stated that they had MB cover it (partially and/or entirely)
- MB actually came out with a remedy for the situation (the screen over the coolers, but only in the E63 and GTs; not the C63)
- I'm a loyal MB and AMG customer, and have had and still have several AMGs

So after I demanded that the supervisor I spoke with call me back, she finally called me back, and I went over the above concerns. I said I'm ok if they say no, but I want to know WHY. To each and every one of my points. Like I even said if I"m not a valuable enough customer because it's a C-class and not a GT class etc, fine tell me so lol. She said she noted all concerns, and that these calls aren't just recorded; they're transcribed, and she'd send it up to the regional rep to get a reply. Several days later, she called me and told me that because it's damage caused by a collision with an object, it's not a covered failure, and to go to through my auto insurance company! LOL.

I reiterated I KNOW it's not a covered failure. Otherwise the OEM warranty would have automatically covered it. I'm ASKING them to consider covering even *something* toward the repair, given the several points I made (and reiterated all of them), and asked for a specific reply to why they would deny each and every point I made. As for the auto insurance portion, I told them that the year prior, I had my insurance cover my GLE63's windshield (large crack from rock damage that splintered and required windshield replacement). I told her that I've been with State Farm for 20+ years, and while they covered the windshield at no cost, they told me flat out that if I have another windshield or similar claim within the next 2 years, they'd drop me (yea...can you believe that?). Official State Farm Policy, not specific to me (I do not have any significant accident/claim history with them). So that's why I can't just call my insurance company to cover the repair, and it's also not fair that I pay a higher premium (if they don't drop me) for the next several years because MB wouldn't cover damage based on a known design flaw.

That last phrase really struck a nerve apparently, because when she took all this info and went back to the regional rep, they responded by agreeing to cover the parts ($630 or so IIRC) only, but only after I signed a waiver relieving MB of any and all liability. I guess they felt I was threatening to sue? Which wasn't my line of thought at all.... But oh well. So I ended up paying like $1200 and they covered $600 out of a $2200 bill (the dealership gave me a discount that brought it down to $1800 instead).

Hope that helps!

Least you got something. Must admit, I don't like how the rads are exposed, I've been pulling leaves out since I bought it and there's loads of dirt and grit in there too.

Can these covers on the E/GT be adapted to fit? Must be some solution. Surely a chance for someone in the aftermarket to make a few quid...
