2019 AMG C63S Coupe
New 2019 C63S Coupe

New to the forum, new to the world of AMGs - last car was a Chrysler Crossfire so I'm at least familiar with MB engines and their love of 6-pointed bolts.

I spec-ordered a 2019 AMG C63S Coupe while I was on overseas military duty, purchasing it through the Military Auto Source program. It was a 10 month process by the time it was all said and done, but I took delivery last week and it's amazing. The break-in period is going to be a while, but overall I couldn't be happier with the car. I got it heavily optioned - Aero Package, Illumination Package, LED Headlights, Parking Package, Driver Assist Package, Night Package, digital dash, etc etc etc. Photos below - she goes in for Feynlabs Self Heal Lite this week, and then window tint - gotta figure out if I comply with VA's ridiculous laws or risk getting pulled over for going too dark.

As for the car, my one complaint so far is that there's no climate control menu option - at best you hit the button and get a 5 second picture, but when there's a screen that shows me a dozen different features and overlays, why isn't there one that shows me a detailed overview of all the climate settings?

Also - how many of you pay for the AT&T Subscription for the wifi, and why or why not? Not sure I see a huge value but maybe I'm missing it.

I'm looking forward to becoming an active member of the group now that I'll have something to contribute!

Congrats and welcome to the club...it's posts like yours that are making even more jealous that I have to wait another month or so at the least for my car.

Enjoy it!

The worst part for me was that it got to the dealership about a week before the folks at Military Auto Source were able to finalize the paperwork, so it was just miles away and I couldn't take ownership. Thankfully we got it all worked out and she's mine.

The wait is worth it - the car is wonderful.

Welcome to the Wiserhood (applause)

Love how the Selenite Grey Metallic and gloss black accents contrast with the matte black wheels!

Congrats bob - amazing ride - probably my favorite of all the AMGs to drive at the academy - you definitely should check that out, I think you get basic day 'free' with the purchase and should go for the advanced with the discount. I really want one too

Sweet looking car, but of course I would say that as mine is configured similarly. I added all the carbon, but otherwise, probably very similar. I'm hoping to get mine in the next month or so. Thanks for posting the pictures.

How about some internal picks?

And as others have asked, give us updates on the quality of car as time passes.

I own a 13 year old Porsche 911 and have zero rattles, etc. The car has been bulletproof and that is even after adding a much more sporty aftermarket suspension. I'm trading a 5.5 year old Audi S7, and its been bulletproof as well. No rattles. Quality is excellent. It was my 2nd Audi, and the other was equally great from a quality stand point. It's just that the S7 is heavy and pushes in turns and lacks any meaningful road feel. Its goes very fast, but isn't a real drivers GT car. I felt that the RS5 would be a bit more responsive, but not all the much. The reviews have said as much.

I feel that C63S is going to give me everything I'm looking for, minus the 4 wheel drive, but I can live with that as my 911 is has 4 wheel drive and is a beast in the snow.. This is my 1st MB and from what I read, I think most folks are happy, but it does seem that some folks are having quality control issues. I'm hoping that MB is addressing some of these more common issues with the 2019 refresh.

If you ever get a chance, the MB museum in Stuttgart is amazing.

Thanks! I considered going with the designo Graphite Grey Magno as I really liked the matte look, but when I was touring the factory in Afalterbach, my tour guide talked me out of it based on the longevity issues with paint quality and maintenance. I'm going to get the Feynlab Self Heal Lite done this weekend so that should really make the paint pop.

Wife and I are signed up for the course in May. I've done a few other driving classes before but they were focused on tactical / evasive driving so it'll be interesting to see what they offer in this one. I'll consider the advance course after the basic. I'm looking forward to it for sure!

I'll snap some internal pics and get them posted soon, and I'll definitely keep updated on the things I like or don't. I can say I'm still frustrated with the climate control system, and the wireless phone charging option is finicky and doesn't always work great. The sound system is epic in my opinion which is definitely different than what some other folks have observed. The car is incredibly advanced from a tech standpoint, and the coupe has a surprising amount of room in the back seats and the trunk is huge. It's definitely a head turner, especially among people who know cars. I do wish it had 4MATIC because I've spun the wheels in multiple gears with even the slightest of moisture on the pavement. Also, the 9-speed is super aggressive on its shifts. A gentle start from a red light, the thing shifts like it's a big rig MAC truck. I'm in 6th or 7th gear before the car hits 35mph - I'm sure it's done that way to help get the best gas mileage possible, and it down shifts just as quick, but it's a little weird.

I had a chance to go to Afalterbach and tour the factory there, it was amazing to see these engines built. I thought a hand-built engine as complex as ours would take a few days - they get it done in 3 hours. The efficiency and tech in that assembly line was incredible. I hadn't taken delivery of mine yet so I wasn't able to go meet the guy who built my engine but they do offer that if he's working that day. And yes, the museum in Stuttgart is incredible!

Oh, one last thing - is there a secret hidden way to remote start the car from the key fob, or do you have to do it through the MercedesME app? Because that doesn't always work reliably...

Did the MENU button on the climate control panel for the MY19 change? That’s supposed to bring up all the info you need regarding climate control, etc. and it shouldn’t disappear after 5 seconds...

Sadly, it seems to have changed. The menu button does bring up the info, but it only stays up for a few seconds at best, not enough time to get the full picture of what's going on and then make adjustments from there. Plus when the screen is up (like shown in your pic) it doesn't work with the scroll wheel / touch pad interface that all the other menus work with, so you can't scroll over and select the temperature and then change it with the wheel, you have to use the physical switches to the left/right of the Menu switch. Which means taking your eye off the road / screen and looking further down the dash to find which of the dozen buttons you want to hit. It's very strange to me that the climate control is the one menu/screen that doesn't work the same as all the others.

Over the weekend I took the new C63S to Polished 2 Perfection in Columbia, MD to get the finished buffed and polished and a coat of FEYNLAB Self Heal Lite applied to the paint. I also had various IGL coatings applied to the glass, plastic, and wheels. Driving home I hit some rain and the water beaded up and was whisked off the car without any issue. The car was practically dry 5 minutes after I pulled into the garage, while my wife's car was still wet an hour later.

Readings from the meter - before the polish and Self Heal Lite

Readings after - major improvement in every category. Much of that was done during the buffing / polishing / paint correction phase, but the FEYNLAB S.H.L. definitely helped.

I have a very similar spec, but with all the CF bits. Mine should arrive at my dealership in Annapolis late this mont or early next.

The work looks great.

Will you get PPF?

Can you PM me with the website of the company that did your work and the cost for the coating.

I was going to use a team over in Rockville to put an PPF on and have been going back and forth on Ceramic coating.

I also tint, which I presume you will as well.

I'll be driving 50 and 495 most of the time. I'll keep an eye out for you. I've yet to see another C43 or C63s on the road since I thought about buying one back in Dec. They are not that rare, but still haven't see 1 on the road.

I don't see a point in doing PPF over the Self Heal. I looked into PPF, but got quotes around the area that were in the $7k range - way more than I was looking to spend on PPF. The PPF may give a slightly better resistance to chips and deep scratches than the FEYNLAB but you run the risk of peeling and all that. If I were going to go with a film I would have just got a white car and put on a colored vinyl wrap for under $4k - could do that twice for the same price as the PPF.

I am going to get the windows tinted. In VA, they're pretty strict about it so I'm going to head to the next Cars & Coffee at Katie's and see what others have done or what they've gotten away with / pulled over for. Then I'll find a reputable shop and go from there. The last cosmetic change might be to replace/plasti dip the badges. With all the night package on the car, I'm not sure if I want the chrome badges.

Agree - I've seen one C63S in the past 6-8 months, it was parked at the Air and Space museum up by IAD. I was going to get a Maserati instead of the AMG but I see at least 1-2 a month around here so I'm happy with my choice.
