Michelin Pilot 4s tires
Hello,
I know the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires come standard in the AMG C63s but has anyone gotten their car in Michelin Pilot 4s tires or tried them? From what I hear, the Pilot 4s tires are better in every way and noticeably improve traction. The AMG c63s obviously gets a good bit of wheel spin because of the 510 HP to just the rear wheels. What's your opinion on the best overall tires for the AMG C63s when factoring in daily driving comfort + performance at the same time? I have a 2020 AMG C63s Coupe on order, hoping to get the car by September.
Thanks!

p4s is the best daily.. I wish they had a better tread pattern though.. the tread looks terrible imo but i will take the added performance any day. The toyo r888/r888r are probably the best for traction but are very loud and not as good when it's wet. I'm burning through the Pss this summer then gonna see if anything better comes out after winter for next year. Not trying to burst your bubble but my dealer told me not to expect to see the 2020 until November or December at the earliest. I ordered my 2019 sept 5th and it took almost 8 months.. I think it was like a week short of 8 months.

Haven't tried them on a C63 yet, but I'm gonna replace the OEM PSS with PS4S pretty soon once i get back from my ED trip and the car arrives in the USA. On my RS5 I've gone from the OEM Pirelli P Zero to a set of PSS and now PS4S. The PS4S is an awesome tire. They seemed a bit stiffer at first, but have worn in and now provide better ride and handling than the PSS. The steering response and wet grip are phenomenal. You can really feel how the tire keeps its shape during cornering and has a better contact patch. It should help the C63 put the power down. The PSS are not bad. I'm currently inundated in rain storms here in Europe and while I can break traction in Comfort mode it's not bad at all. I've used the new Slippery mode only once. It does throttle the torque and power to help with traction, but I haven't really found it necessary.

Yeah, this car really needs PS4s or better. Can't say from my own experience cause I haven't driven one yet but I can imagine from driving my M2 that has the PSS and has 370 HP as opposed to the 510 HP of the C63s.

Yeah, the PS4S is significantly improved over the PSS. I'm guessing AMG has to meet their commitment to Michelin and continue shipping the C63 with PSS tires. They are putting PS4S tires on the newest models such as the GT63 4-door. The PS4S is supposed to be the replacement, but Michelin hasn't officially discontinued the PSS yet.

I faced this same problem last week when I needed new rears. Put PSS on again or the new PS4’s and have mis-matching front/reads. I decided to go PSS again with the hopes that the rears will wear down at the same time as the fronts next time and I can swap all 4 out to PS4’s. My OCD got the best of me to allow my brain to be ok with mismatching fronts and rears this time. 🤦🏼*♂️

Wow that is really making me want to just order and install ps4s when the car comes and sell the PSS. Dealership told me to expect the car to arrive in October.

PS4s are enough for stock power levels, stage 2 and DPs or bigger turbo you'll probably want more grip if you don't want lots of wheel spin in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear on WOT.

I also upgraded from PSS to PS4s. I added 10mm of section width F/R, so it's not an apples/apples comparison, but I am very happy with the upgrade.

Coupe or Sedan? Tire size? I switched to PS4s and still burn through them.

I think people highly overrate the PS4 tires... Yes they are better than the PSSs. However, after a thousand miles or so I still lose traction, not as bad as the PSSs but it still happens more than what people will lead you to believe on here. When I FIRST got the PS4s they hooked like crazy, not so much after some use. I've even considered going with the R888s since I don't daily drive OR 20" rims all around with much wider rims in the rears. Also worth noting is that I have a bunch of old slippery streets around me.. on newer paved streets the PS4s hook like crazy. Just keeping it real, this is my opinion on it...

I’ve also been looking at Cup 2 tires and not driving my C63S every day too.

I have a couple thousand miles now on my PS4S 265F/295R and they are still pretty sticky. I have tried to break the rear tires but it's difficult and it snaps back quickly. I was having a bit of buyer's remorse with the PSS. Even on wet pavement I can trust the car.

I have to guess that this is more dependent on the type of asphalt you’re on. I can break the rear tires at 60mph on bad asphalt.

Agreed. Around here is mostly concrete. I remember one or two places where the asphalt was so slick that I would lose traction in my RS4 Quattro.

In my experience (both C43 and C63 S), PS4 tires are:
- temperature sensitive: On cooler days the traction is quite different from warmer days with a noticeable reduction in traction when the temperatures get below about 50 deg. F (10 deg. C).
- pressure sensitive: I find that 1 PSI difference in tire pressure can make a noticeable difference in ride harshness. I set the pressures when the car has been sitting overnight in my garage and normally use 1 PSI higher than the pressure recommended for the load/speed on the inside of the fuel-filler cap. Because of this sensitivity, I find that it's worth the effort to fine-tune the tire pressures, as the weather warms and cools.

still the best street tires money can buy.
