I'm due for my diff oil change next week. I'm going to order the MB-approved oil online ($20/bottle) and the replacement drain plug ($5) so my indy mechanic just has to charge for labor. Looks like MB dealers are charging 3x for oil!

Where did you find a drain plug for $5??? Best price I could find was in the $20's.

Hmm, maybe I have the wrong part #. Pelican has this for $5.50 - Genuine Mercedes-Benz SCREW PLUG - 3529970032

What part # are you using?

0019902317 is what I found in a different section of this forum, but admittedly not for the 2019 year. When I searched your part number it didn't list the C63S.

I'm going to do my diff change this afternoon so I'll see if mine fit - hopefully I don't need a new one regardless.

I think you're right about that part number which is $20/each. Post back if they need to be replaced or not.

Here's the process to change the rear diff oil on a 2019 AMG C63S Coupe - can't speak to whether it works for any other year or model.

Tools:
  • 3/4 Box Wrench - preferably ratcheting
  • Small flat head screw driver
  • Oil catch tub
  • Jack & Jack Stands
Materials:
Process:
  1. Jack up the vehicle, level is best. Get enough room to weasel underneath it.
  2. Stick your oil catch tub under the diff. You'll be working from the front side of the diff, not the rear cover.
  3. Remove the upper plug with the 3/4 wrench, it's on the driver's side. See photos below.
  4. Find the drain plug on the passenger side, it has a brass temperature probe and some wires that you'll have to remove.
  5. Using the small screw driver, pull the white tab out a 1/4" and then wiggle the plug off the temperature sensor.
  6. Use the wrench to remove the plug, be ready for the diff fluid.
  7. After everything is drained, replace the drain plug and reconnect the wires and push back in the white locking tab.
  8. If you bought the diff oil I recommended in the materials, it comes with its own little pour hose. The container will fit up above the frame rails and can easily fill the diff.
  9. Dump 1 container in, then start pouring in the second until it starts to pour out the fill hole.
  10. Replace the fill plug.
  11. Wipe up the drips off the exhaust, and take the car off the stands.
  12. Have a beer, you did it!
I don't know what the torque settings are, but given how hard it was to get the plugs loose, I went with the German spec of "Gud-n-tite". Overall, probably a 15-20 minute job if you're quick with the jack and stands. Given the condition of the fluid coming out of the diff, I don't see any reason why you wouldn't do the change after 2k miles.

Fill plug on the driver's side.

The drain plug on the passenger side.

The drain plug. Pull out on the little white tab to remove the sensor wires.

The two plugs, the drain plug with the sensor on my finger tips, the fill plug in my palm. Neither needed to be replaced unless you absolutely screw them up.

I can confirm, in my instance, that part 0019902317 was indeed the right part for the fill plug, and that I did not need to replace it, nor could I see any reason you would need to unless you used a mangled crescent wrench to remove the plug and totally rounded the corners. I now have 2 spares just in case because I'm not paying the absurd cost to return them.

Try as I might, I haven't been able to find a part number for the drain plug / sensor. If anyone can find it, please post it here so we have it for reference in the future.

Interesting. The sticker that was on my windshield (2020 C63S Sedan) does not mention changing the rear axle fluid. But the AMG C Class supplement does say to do it at 2,000 miles. My SA said it's not necessary. But reading some comments here about how dirty it was, I went ahead and made the appointment. I have a car lift and 20 gallon catch can so will do the rest of the changes myself, but figured may as well get credit for showing that it was done at least once by an "official" place.

*****As far as do it yourself, differential oil change is one of the easier things to do. Jackstands, some sockets, and the oil with the funnel or tube attachment. It was one of the first DIY things I did on my car when I bought it.

Besides the Break In period, the MB Required Additional Work chart states: Replace rear axle differential oil with Code 467(electronic locking differential) or Code 471 (mechanical locking differential) at 30,000 miles or 3 years.
