Hardwiring a Radar Detector

Yup, it's what I figured. I ended up hardwiring it to a switched trunk fuse. Process was a bit more of a pain since the Escort Max 360 smartcord direct wire is not nearly long enough to get back there, so had to splice the wire to extend it, but overall got a very clean look that I'm happy with.

Blendmounts won't really work on the mirror of this car (unless you drill into the mirror casing), so I just used the mag mount that came with my detector. Placed it to the left of the mirror, just below the mirror in the curve made by the mirror housing that is attached to the windshield. Works fine there.

There was only one switched fuse on the driver side that I could find on my 17.
I like this mount spot the best since it is out of the way, doesn't obstruct anything and can still see the display. There seem to be no issues with it picking up lidar or reg radar mounted high like this. Running this way for 9mo now.

Owners Manual say's there's only a fuse box on the passenger side, where is the one on the drivers side, also what did you ground the cord to?

There is a bolt to the left of the fuse panel that secures the plastic that can be used for ground since it connects to the chassis under.

For those of you who have done or had this done on the 19 and newer cars...
which hardwire kit did you use. It seems that the radenso is the longest at 10', and includes the fuse tap and the ground wire.
Is there a screw in or nearby the trunk fuse box to which the ground wire can be attached?
Also, can you provide any more detail about how/where the wire was ran to the final destination high and left of the mirror?
I really hate having my detector stuck to the middle of the windshield, with the ugly cord running down the side of the dash.

So just to confirm, there are no switched fuses available in the driver side or passenger side fuse boxes for facelift vehicles(MY 2019+)??

how easy is it to get access to the cigarette lighter wires? I might have to resort to this as i don't really feel like running the wire from the front windshield down the a pillar or headliner all the way to the trunk...

I didn’t do the work myself, but it’s pretty straightforward to remove the center trim piece that houses everything. Then just route the wire up to the windshield.

I tapped into the wires located in the plastics box behind the mirror. It is not switched but as stated there is none. I pulled the plastic cover off and pulled the plug and tapped into that.

In all fairness, running a wire to the back is not difficult. The upside of doing it this way is you have an actual switched fuse you can tap into and haven't altered any of the factory wiring at all. If it was a ton more work I'd say definitely go for the wire-tap method, but shoving a wire between headliner panels from the windshield to the trunk is a 5 minute job.
