Carplay/Android Auto Question

In the 2019 Coupe Models is the only option to connect to carplay the port next to the wireless charging mat? Can you use the ports in the armrest? I can't seem to get that to work.

Since this doesn't have wireless carplay, I'm trying to come up with like a small docking station either in the cup holder or armrest area so I can just use one hand to plug in the phone on the go for carplay. Does anyone have a setup like that?

Thanks!

As per the manual, only the front center compartment's USB port supports mobile phone connection for Carplay / Android Auto. The other two ports in the center armrest stowage compartment can be used for Media playback (i.e. flash drives, etc.) and even ipod connection, but not for Carplay / Android Auto. However, I haven't tried using those ports though for Android Auto.

Does yours have the wireless charging pad in the front center compartment? If so, even if you do not use it for charging (like me who usually has a thick protective case for the phone), it acts a good friction pad to place your phone. The only disadvantage is that you will have to keep a USB cable in that port all the time. You could try to get one of the shorter USB cables if it helps a bit.

This may be troublesome. So what if I didn’t spec the center compartment wireless charging option (just the standard 12v socket)? Would CarPlay/Android auto still be accessible? It is my understanding that this feature is standard.

I got a little 6” USB cable with a right-angled lightning plug. Helps keep the area less cluttered.

Carplay / Android Auto is always Stanadard in MY19. I just meant that the wireless charging mat also acts as a good storage/placement compartment for your phone while driving even if you do not use it for charging.

I'm not sure how much space is available for placing your phone there, when the 12V socket is there instead.

Thanks, I should actually clarify - do you guys know if the standard no 'wireless-charging' compartment includes a center console USB as well (in addition to the 12V socket)? This is one thing I forgot to check during my test drives of the 2019 car.

Not that its a huge deal but I sometimes want to use carplay in the middle of a drive. So i figure if I have a set dock and I could just place the phone down and go. Since the only active port is in the front, maybe i can use one of the cupholders for this purpose.

Just checked today and confirmed that the two USB ports in the armrest compartment doesn't support Android Auto and only the one in the front center does. Without the wireless charger, I'm not sure if the USB ports and their behavior change.

It seems like MBUX does not handle DRM protected audio or video files. See picture (GLS owners manual, not GLE). So it may be worth checking to see if your MP3s are “protected.”

For those who like old school way listen to music like me using USB, you can get the "SanDisk Ultra 64GB Dual Drive USB Type-C (SDDDC2-064G-G46)". Just stick the USB 2.0 side in computer transfer your music/data then stick the Type-C side into our media port.
