Hey fellas, I downloaded (offline) map update through Mercedes ME portal. Infotainment picks up the new update when I plug in the usb stick however it proceeds to ask for a PIN code when I try to install. Any idea where this code might be located?

Sorry for the news but your vehicle is incompatible (if I read the model year correct ,2012?), you might need to buy the map media instead. Or you can try sites like these, never personally used these sites though:

Yes, still the same process. They did redesign the website and you can no longer select individual regions to update. The only two options now are updating just the home region or all regions. I had to get a larger SD card. The updates have grown over the years. The OTA update for the home region also has started to take forever, so I tend to preempt it with a full manual update, and if the OTA update is already in progress it can be interrupted by starting the manual update.

Other than copyright I really don't know why MB would do such a thing....

Mercedes was always more expensive than the two other brands across the world so they are tend to be seemed to or very least themselves view themselves more premium and luxurious than competitors. I am sorry about the agency model they had on Australia though : (

GLC63 AMG S Coupe
I decide to upgrade my MB Nav map as the other day I was driving on the field while I was physically driving on a new highway.
I contacted the Mercedes Benz Canada customer assistance center and they said no problem I can do the update online.
All I needed to buy a USB flash drive of 32GB and a USB C adapter.
They also told me that I needed to get a subscription to Mercedes ME for $250.00 per year as my original subscription has expired.
I got the subscription and I got access to Geofencing, Remote engine start, and Vevicle locator on my Mercedes Me.
I spent about a week following detailed instructions that MB send me on how to download the maps.
No success.
Finally, I called Customer assistance and a different customer rep told me that the only way to get my maps upgraded is to go and see the MB dealer.
I called them and they told me that I can do the upgrade online.
I told them that Customer assistance told me that only the MB dealer can do it for me.
Finally, they call me back and told me that the dealer can do the update but it will cost me $447.00 CDN.

So simple nav map upgrade will cost me close to $800.00.
Is there another way?

My car is a 2019 AMG GLC 63S

Unfortunately, you've been led astray by the first customer rep and later your dealership. The old COMAND system in your 2019 GLC doesn't support online map updates. Only starting with the 2020 can you do online and OTA updates. It is correct that the maps need to be updated by a third-party. A dealership can do it, but it's very expensive as you found out. Other options are BenzNinja and other remote coders that can upgrade the maps for less money.

As superswiss indicated, there are 3rd-parties that can help with an update ... I've used an on-line one with success (ask Mr. Google). BenzNinja is also a reliable source.

However, if you have CarPlay, forget the MBZ maps. At least in Canada I find the MBZ nav maps to be severely lacking. I've often found that the MBZ nav maps don't know the address of a business that's been there for more than 15 years prior to the date the maps would have been assembled ... and this is in cities in the greater Vancouver BC area, not "out in the boonies." Lame!

If you use an iPhone, you'll also find that you often (or never, depending upon the car's vintage) can't select an address from your phone's contacts and use it's address for navigation ... unless you re-enter it via the car and save it back to the phone. Again ... really lame!

If you do have CarPlay and don't like having to plug in your phone to use it (seriously, who would), there are now reliable wireless interfaces ... search this forum and you'll find some reviews, including from me.

Yes, the offline POI databases that ship with most maps are often outdated. However, you can always perform an online search for a business from the car. I simply have to say "Navigate to <business name>" and it does a universal search across the offline POIs, my phone contacts and the online POIs and then returns the best match. If the results are ambiguous I can further narrow it down. The online results pretty much always contain what I'm looking for. Alternatively, I can look up a business on my phone in Google Maps, Apple Apps etc., then tap Share and send it straight to the car, so I don't really need the maps in the car to do anything other than navigating to an address.

Now, I don't know how well this works with the older cars and the older COMAND system, but it does work great in my FL C63S. I use the phone option most of the time. I just send the destination to the car shortly before I drive off, and then the address pops up on the screen and I just need to start the route guidance from the prompt.

Unfortunately, my car does not have Android Auto and I was told that the only way to get it is to change the head unit on my GLC.
I purchase the Road Top module last year and I was not able to get it working properly. The installation was too complicated for me and the video instruction were in Chinese. After many emails with a vendor, I was not able to make it work.
Thanks for the recommendations.
I would love to be able to use Waze on my car's display through Android Auto.

Now, I don't know how well this works with the older cars and the older COMAND system, ...
I hadn't thought of the "share" approach ... I'll have to see whether that works on the 2017 C43 (which does not have CarPlay).
