Facelift Muffler Delete

The facelift owner's quest for more sound is seemingly never ending, but I'm now considering exploring my final option.

I already have an ASR module, I did a secondary cat delete, now I'm thinking of getting the mufflers cut out.

I know downpipes would solve all my problems overnight, but I'm trying to get this done as low-cost as possible.

I have a couple questions before I go with the muffler delete.

1. Has anyone done it yet? I want to confirm it will actually make the car louder.

2. Will I have too much drone? "Too much" is subjective I guess, but will it be enough for me to have to undo it?

3. Are the valves controlled by the exhaust button and now my ASR module located at the mufflers? I'd rather not cut those out, especially if the car's getting a major volume increase, I may want to begin using the valves rather than just keeping them open 100% of the time.

Thank you!

I have a 2017 C63S Coupe with the PE for reference. yeah those are the muffler valves. Good part is you dont have to cut them as they come right off. Without mufflers you can expect more drone but nothing major imo since doing the secondary cat delete had its drone too.

But the car sounds so much more aggressive that you forget about the drone.

I’d definitely not cut the mufflers off. Do catless DP’s and do it the right way over the cheap way, everytime. You own an $80-90k man!

So is there a way to remove the muffler and keep the valves working?

the valves serve no purpose without a muffler. if you raise your car, its the last section of the exhaust that will be taken off not cut which would include both muffler and valve.

Untamedd is right. No muffler = no valves. I'm thinking of ordering this for my car: https://www.renntechmercedes.com/ind...3-coupe-detail
You could go to an exhaust shop and have them make custom pipes. But there goes your valves, money and most likely you'd get a horrible drone and hate it. A good bet might be the Renntech sport muffler and if that's not enough then Renntech down pipes. Bonus is you pick up 10 HP and 15 foot pounds more of torque with just the sport muffler set. I had a dilemma on my RS. It has three mufflers, one on each side and a center. I didn't want to delete the sides or do headers. Akrapovic makes a slip on race pipe that deletes the center muffler. It sounds great and I was very happy with it. Made things nice and clean and no warranty issues. I even had the dealer install it and will do the same with the Renntech.

I can’t pay almost 4 grand for some mufflers.

So I guess theres no way to remove the mufflers without getting a code for not having valves?

No codes. Just plug in AWE valve simulators.

Has anyone done a muffler delete?

I read a thread on here and someone posted to not touch them as they act as amplifiers. Is it possible the exhaust could be quieter without mufflers?

Would it be better to replace the mufflers with something else or just do a full delete?

I did a bit of research and the flowmaster super 10 series seems like a good option. Could anyone who understands the mechanics of mufflers tell me based on the shape of the flowmaster if it would be quieter or louder than oem?

Thank you!!

omg please do not put a flowmaster on an AMG!!

exhaust will obviously be louder without mufflers. I have secondary cat delete and muffler delete and the car sounds awesome.

doesnt matter if its facelift or pre facelift. No mufflers equals more volume

Okay great so no replacement it is! I can save a few bucks then.

Once I get it done we'll be running the same setup, secondary cat delete and muffler delete.

Do you get too much drone?

Also, did you get any codes? Do you think if I leave my ASR module connected it could act as a valve simulator and trick the computer into thinking the valves are still there?

yeah our setup will be similar however when i saw muffler delete i mean AWE Track Exhaust.

Yes, there will be some drone but its nothing major and the new sound more than enough makes up for it.

You wont get any codes. Get ride of the ASR module and sell it. You will need the valve simulators regardless to plug in to the actual valve. That is the only way the computer will think the valves are still there ant not throw any error codes or put you in limp mode.

I see, hopefully it'll sound good even without the AWE track setup.

I'll make sure to get those simulators.

Thanks for your help!

If you have a facelift do you have OPF?
From what I have understood the OPF is located inside the secondary cats. Did you get a cel when you removed them?

My understanding is that no one knows where the OPF is, or if the US cars even have it at all.

But no, I didn’t get a CEL.

The sound is on another level than before, but I still want more.

So I believe the ECU is still holding the sound back.

Well you won't. Its been done by several users on here and no one got a CEL.

You will however get a CEL if you cut out the mufflers.

You will have zero drone at cruise without mufflers. Zero.

Im pfl and I have secondary cat delete and my exhaust bumps up to 3 inch straight pipe after the Hpipe to the tips.

You will have no cel or soft limp mode if you run the AWE valve sims for the sport exhaust wiring after mufflers are gone (unless it's different for facelift car). The valve sims are simply just resistors that trick the car into thinking the wiring is still plugged into the muffler/valves.

My car is a 2020 AMG GT R. I know this is the wrong section but the facelifted c63 also has the OPF.

I am really confused about the OPF in these cars. I know with Porsche you can clearly see them and there are separate sensors for OPF which makes them harder to remove. Will definitely need a tune.

Are the secondary cats the OPF now? If that’s the case then I like the way MB did it since there are no sensors and much easier to remove.

Anyone had done a muffler delete on a 2019 facelift C63 AMG Coupe? I did the secondary cat delete but interested to find out what it sounds like with the mufflers gone. 😁😁

I'm just waiting for AWE to make simulators for the FL and I'll do it.

I ended up ordering a set of the PFL simulators before I knew they weren't compatible with the FL. Was too lazy to send them back lol But they're just two little plastic looking pieces, I can't imagine it would be that hard to make them for the FL.

Keep me updated once you’ve done them. Hopefully it sounds good!
