265 vs. 285 Rears
Hey folks,
I know there have been many threads in regards to tire width increases for sedans.
I currently have PS4S on my car. They’re still in great shape.. about 5k miles on them. I’m spinning the rears way more than I want to, regardless of TSC setting, even when they’re nice and warmed up.
As such, I’m thinking about going ahead and jumping to 285’s. Anyone else done it? Worth doing? Did it help increase traction by any noticeable amount?
Thanks for the input!

I specifically have the PS4s and 285 on my sedan. Great combo with zero issues. Go for it!

Thank you. Of course it's a no brainer and I will update next time I need new rears, regardless!
However, my question was: is it enough of a difference to justify spending the money to chunk two great condition 265's for two new 285's?

i would change the fronts by 20mm as well to keep the look the same. Otherwise the rear tires will be sticking out a touch while the fronts are neatly tucked in inside the wheel arch.

It doesnt matter either way - its not AWD. But wider fronts would look and handle better too. And to answer your question...yes the difference in money from 265 to 285 is 100% worth it. Its a big difference. I'm considering 305 on on my coupe next time around.

Factory set of tires were obviously stock size. Next set of tires I went with +10 both front and back. I currently have +10 in the front and +20 in the back. perfect combo with my various sizes i have run. I personally wouldn't go +20 in the front. The combo of +10 in the front and +20 in the back isn't strange at all. It looks just right. This is all on stock wheels. I also have the Dinan tune so I have been looking for the best grip options in the back for putting the power down!

I just want to chime in since I did this last week. I went 265/35 front and 285/35 rear. The 265 in the front is just too wide for an 8.5 inch wheel IMO. The front tire looks slightly bulged in the sidewall, and the rears sit, work and look perfect. So when you look at the car from the side, the front tires almost appear like a fatter sidewall. It bugs me. I wish I had just gone with a 255/275 combo, and again, only because the 265 on the front doesn't look right. I'm tempted to throw a 255/35 on it and I know some of done the 255/285 combo but they're almost an inch different in diameter at that point and I'm not sure it's such a great idea as far as the stability/traction control. Plus the the rear tire would look a bunch thicker in that setup almost looking like a raked car.
285 DO fit just fine on the rear though ftwiw.
edit: i take it back, see my reply below.

Sooo, I got to thinking more about my tires after posting in this thread and went down to my car which had been sitting over night. I checked the tire pressures and the the fronts were set at 49 psi!!! I had specifically asked them to put them at 38f/33r when I dropped the car off but I guess they went by the sticker in the door (plus a few for good measure lol) rather than the one in the gas cap. I lowered them down to 38 front and 33 rear and after looking over the tires a few times while I parked at various spots throughout the day,I have to say the front no longer looks bulgy or different than the rear. I feel much better about my setup/purchase now. It does, however, rub the fender liner at almost full lock to the right still.
Also I wanted to add that when you go up 20mm front and rear, the sidewalls will be about 6mm thicker if you stay with 35 profile. I personally think it looks good/mean but others might not like it. You could go with a 30 profile (if your tire choice comes in it) with the wider tire setup but then you'd be around 8mm thinner sidewall than stock.

I will say the Dinan tune can get your in a trouble. What I mean by that is you have to be more responsible with the throttle. When the car is stock I believe Mercedes set it up so you can be aggressive with the throttle and you won't just spin sideways for example during a turn. But with the Dinan that added power definitely means more responsibility! But i really do love it

305s here. Car hooks better, but still spins like crazy under ~40mph. With the tune, anything under 60 is slippery. I'm thinking about stepping up to a stickier tire. This car makes too much torque and is too heavy for the PS4S in this size to handle.
