What was their lame excuse? If it happens to mine, I’d be screaming manufacturing defect. Ask to speak to the service manager. If they say no, ask for the general manager. Keep asking until you get the answer you want.

i would save that fight for when it matters and not a $100 piece of trim.

I didn’t get any ceramic coating or anything like that but I did get StarGuard protection applied by the dealership when I purchased it, which reminds me I think that was supposed to give me some extra insurance.

I would be surprised if its caused by clothes rubbing as it feels coarse to touch, I think it just defective and worn away from air / grit when driving then maybe? Either way it shouldn’t do it. You might expect it on an old cheap car but not on an AMG. I think its not fit for purpose. Quite suprising just to have cheap plastic stuck on like that 😜 I think the part is £77, that why I’m so surprised they won’t do it under warranty. Its going to cost the dealership more than that in labour to polish it out surely?

God forbid anything major goes wrong as I have no faith that the warranty is worth anything now.
I mentioned this possibility within the first few responses to the OP. I've had it happen to me and it really pizzed me off. It took a long time and lots of sweat to rub that crap off the hood and front bumper. It was while parked at a curb with very low bushes. It was a relatively fine mist spray that turned on automatically. I was inside an office building and later that morning I come out to find the damage.

The sprinkler water remark was for the other poster/comment showing his front skirt being discolored. But FYI, you can have your tap water tested and its not as clean as you think it is.. as for Sprinker's , general aggregation in the US, and other countries, they use untreated or minimally treated water for these purposes. (they use reclaimed, semi-filtered, etc)

In your case, The only logical cause (as stated by others) is and as , it is at the same location your legs, would be at when exiting the vehicle, would point directly at Wear.

But just my opinion...

THAT is the problem; there shouldn't be a 'fight' or even an issue on a car of OP's age.

Exactly, I know we’re spending the money on the engineering in the car and its a hell of a car, I was expecting more from Merc in terms of customer service.

That being said, I don’t think trim on any 1 year old car should wear out from your jeans rubbing on it as you get out of it (if that’s the cause) and I would be shocked if ANY OEM failed to warranty replace it. I wonder how the cheaper makes that offer 5 year warranty compare?

My dealership have been left out to dry by Merc I think on this one, but I guess they need more clout? Anyhow I’ll let you know how they get on with polishing it out although they are not doing it until September (partly mine and their availability).

You should expect more if you're paying more right? I don't think it's a great idea to treat customers this way.

Strange then. I do have a piece of front bumper trim that has gone bluey but the whole piece has gone. Going to bring it up tomorrow when dropping off for 2 year service. It’s not going to be my man battle though. Discs and pads all replaced under warrent due to vibration 10k ago, and back exactly the same one year on. Sure they will try to blame me somehow like they did last time and had to kick off. Good luck sorting. Let us know how it gets resolved.

All fixed!

Got the car back today and feel a bit silly now as my local dealership (Mercedes Benz of Newbury) did a really good job of polishing it out and it looks as good as new!
