🚤 Groan + rough pedal feel when panic stopping C63s

Hello gents

Do any of you get a rough pedal feel and groaning sound when panic stopping from high speeds? The groan sounds almost like the humming of a bad CV joint on older cars.......... it disappears as the car slows. I'm thinking it's the ABS?

Only happens when doing a high speed panic stop above 70mph. All other times the car brakes nicely.

I've got new pads and discs 500 miles ago oem Mercedes so it can't be them (red brakes)

Thank you,
George Lisciandro

What do you mean by rough pedal feel? As for the noise, not sure without hearing it, but the slots in the rotors produce a sort of hum which is normal. I don't even pick up on it anymore, because I had slotted rotors before.

EDIT: Also have you bedded your new brakes yet?

The noise is like a low pitched groan......... it sounds like "HMMmmm" and the pedal will pulsate a bit but this pulsation will disappear in line with the sound disappearing as the car slows.

This is only ever happens if I press VERY hard on the brake to panic stop from high speed! Do you know what I mean?

All other times braking there's no sound or vibration and it brakes nicely !

The dealership b*stards said they bedded in the brakes too 🤔🤔🤔
500 miles on them now

From your description, the noise sounds like the hum from the slots. You'll definitely hear that under hard braking. Does the frequency of the hum get lower as the car slows down?

The pulsation could just be that the pads are not at their max performance yet. It could be ABS slightly triggering or the EBD regulating the brake force to each of the wheels. Yeah, they do some bedding when installing brakes, but really that's not enough. You have to go for some 60-5 repetitive stops until the brakes heat up properly and build a proper layer of pad material on the rotors. Another reason of the pulsation could be that you already have some irregular pad deposits, because of doing hard high speed braking on relative new pads w/o thoroughly bedding them first, they could also contribute to the noise as they pass under the pads.

You may be activating ABS depending on how hard you’re braking at high speeds. The “whine” when decelerating from a high speed quickly is normal for these types of brakes... but if you feel movement in the brake pedal as you’re standing on them, it’s more than likely ABS kicking in trying to avoid locking up your front tires. For those not used to it, ABS makes some funky sounds when engaged under high brake load.

Thanking you superswiss & alex for generously helping & informing me. You guys are right I'm just new to slotted & drilled rotors......... the brakes that were on before this were not oem they were cheapies

These OEM discs have massive holes in them. I will proceed to do my own bedding in this week. Is panic stopping from 60mph x 5 times enough? Or should I do it more.............

I would do a good 8-10 60-15 mph stops with as much brake pressure you can do without activating ABS (so you’re on the threshold). It’s important after each stop to 10-15 mph or so that you speed back up to 60 to keep the the brakes cool. After you’ve done enough of these, you may notice some brake fade which is normal. You should drive around, ideally on a highway, for at least 5-10 minutes at speed to cool the brakes down before parking it.

Good info here by these guys. I get the same with OEM discs and pads. Massive judder when you really stand on the anchors but thats the ABS from what I gather. It's a bit more pronounced in this car than others but then again our cars have huge brakes.

For me it's sort of like a fast thump thump mmm thump mmm and you can feel it through the brake pedal.

Would it still do this with ESP in Sport? I haven't tried
