Trading car in: RennTech HHT Worth Anything?

Quick question, y'all. Trading my car in soon to the dealer (non MB). Is my RennTech HHT worth anything after I sell the car? I understand it's VIN locked but maybe someone would want an extra device?

In general , Renntech has added value to trade ins, so I would possibly check around and make sure your getting the best value ... With so many car buyers out there, you dont need to trade to same dealer your buying from.

Much easier said than done. Selling privately (especially during these times) is a major PITA for the extra money in your pocket compared to a trade in. Not to mention, trading in your vehicle lowers the sales tax significantly on the new vehicle purchase.

Having a RennTech tune, or any tune or modification adds zero value in resale. In fact, I’d go as far as saying you’ll have more trouble selling the farther from stock you get.

Completely agree, especially the last sentence. Any knowledge of prior performance modifications results in perception (often reality) that the car could have been raced/"abused".

i never said go with private , but there are car buyer services that quote you online and give good numbers.

and your 100% incorrect about renntech tune not adding value. i know if a few dealers and even a mb that will pay more with a renntech tune. (docs and HHT) required.

there are actually threads here as well discussing it.

I’ve tested some of those instant quote car buying companies (Autonation, carmax, etc.) and the values they gave me were less than what a local Porsche dealership offered me with a trade-in.

Personally, if I were in the market to buy a used W205, I would only buy one that’s been unmolested. Even a nice Renntech tune would turn me off because I know components have been stressed beyond stock, and there are tons of MAP sensor failures, spark plug fouling, and other issues cropping up as people pack on more miles on tuned C63’s. Just my 2 cents.

Once again, you're 100% correct. Some people do not get that 99% of people will be turned off (I myself very mildly modify all my cars and would never consider one modified by some one else, especially if done to AMG). Good luck looking for that 1%!

Same here. I wouldn’t touch a used AMG that I knew had engine mods or tune.
