Installed Michelin Cup 2’s

Just showing you guys the pictures of the rear tires. They are both exactly the same factory size. Cup 2’s run wider and actually look better.

Sure looks a lot different but part of it maybe optical illusion (?) as the PSS have that rim protector and the cup 2's don't (its much smaller).

Definitely not optical illusion. Looking at actual specs, cup2’s are wider in MB spec.

According to Tire Rack, the Cup 2 has about .5" wider tread width, however, they look more stretched in your picture, not wider. The wider part is the extra rim protection that the Cup 2 and PS4S have. Here's a pic of my PS4S for comparison. They also stretch less than the Cup 2. You sure they are the same size?

Top picture is clearly more stretched than the bottom. To me, cup 2’s seems less stretchered than your PS4s? Are you on stock size?

More angles on Cup 2’s.

Oh never mind. I lopsided the picture labels. Didn't realize your top picture was the PSS. Yes, you are right, the PSS is far more stretched, so now it makes sense. Yep, the PS4S would be a bit more stretched. The PS4S has 9.9" tread width and the Cup 2 has 10.5". So the Cup 2 is the same width as the wheels and therefore will be square pretty much. Interesting thing is the PSS has a tread with of 10", but it looks far more stretched on the wheel than the PS4S. A little bit of stretch stiffens the sidewall around corners. Basically makes the tire less likely to roll over the sides and improve handling.

Agreed about the little bit of stretch. PSS’s are a little too stretched IMO.

I got mine in Cup 2s from the factory. Great tire, I'm on ps4s right now and the main difference to me is the car absolutely handled and turned better with the Cup 2s. A bit more grip/handling when doing tight turns on a windy canyon road with the Cup 2. Ps4s definitely quieter and more comfortable and surprisingly has close to the same peformance as the Cup 2s overall.

I went 255/305 ps4s but will probably go back to stock size, I feel like the car will handle and turn better with stock size, small difference but my preference over the little bit of more traction going wider. The car will spin no matter the width if the tires aren't hot.

The PS4S took a lot of the learnings from the Cup 2 and applied it to a more exclusive street use with a tire that can handle wet and dry conditions. The Cup 2 needs sufficient heat in them to perform and they don't do so well in the wet. Another important difference is that the Cup 2 starts at 7.2/32" tread depth whereas the PS4S starts at 9.5/32". That extra tread depth gives the PS4S more flex at the beginning until you wear them down closer to where the Cup 2 starts. Dry grip/handling improves as the tire wears down, because those grooves are only there to expel water, but actually are counterproductive for dry handling.

I may buy forged HRE’s and get PS4’s for those wheels. So Cup 2’s for warmer months and PS4’s for colder. We don’t have much of a winter in Atlanta so PS4’s will be just fine.

I did replace PZero Corsas on my previous car to PS4’s and I felt that you definitely give up some of the aggressiveness of the proper trackable tires but you gain far more traction in cold/wet days.

Actually just picked up a 2021 C63 AMG S coupe today for my gf to drive that came with Cup 2's. SO, If anyone is interested, I'll probably list soon. She has NO need for them and I had the dealer swap them out for PS4's. I've had them on my GT cars for myself, but it takes skill to drive with those tires in other than optimal driving conditions!

Excellent demonstration how different tyres are not produced to precise sizes , there is manipulation !

To some this is like telling them that the world is a flat disk .

Also happens to the aspect ratio too so throws out those online calculators .

Welcome to the real world .

Yeah exactly. when I replaced Pirelli PZero Corsas on my previous car to PS4S, Michelin were narrower. I had to go up one size.

Another thing that makes this even more interesting is that the same model tire could be different depending on OEM designation.
