What an imbecile!! Looks like he had the Traction control on it partly on. Shows he didn't know how to handle a car like that!!!

Everyone is saying he had traction control on, but I still don't understand how this happened. If he managed to disengage launch control by coming off the brakes and back on again, shouldn't the traction control limit power to the wheels, and even if it doesn't, shouldn't the engine overpower the rear brakes?

I don't think TC was on. I think he was standing on the brakes attempting a stationary burnout, but instead burned out the start-up clutch and set the transmission on fire. He probably thought the smoke came from the tires and just kept gunning it.

So basically you should not attempt a burnout with the facelift?

He probably have the 9 stage traction control. So ig he did turn off traction by holding down the button but then activated the 9 stage which has to be turn all the way down. At least he get to burn out the clutch haha

You can do them, but you have to do a few items to be able to do them without doing what he did..
Thats what happens when you get something for FREE, and then dont give a crap to read or lookup all the info about the car, and learn how it does things etc etc..

On that note, I couldnt find any info on what or how this dude won the car ?? anyone ??

That car was mod'd and with the VIDEO as evidence, no way in hell MB going to touch that....

Also, I think this might cause a shift to possibly the group that gave away the car, as it obviously had been mod'd to some extent, even more so they talked about it while driving in the car (on video)
and it sucks that this idiot wont just admit to doing something stupid. And own upto it.. but instead he needs to find someone else to blame.
(which then gives a bad light to the tuning world) <- when this actually had nothing to do with it.

And....
He actually tried to lie at first and say it caught fire while "just driving" ....

//In a statement, NSW police said they were initially told that Mouawad caught fire when it was “ driven over the road. ”

“Following further investigation – including searching for video footage of an alleged burnout attempt – the 25-year-old owner / driver was given notice of attendance in court yesterday for dangerous driving and negligent driving,” the statement said.

Mouawad will appear in Bankstown District Court on March 11, 2021.

The story is on the MBWorld homepage now with an interesting bit of information.

Quote:
“It’s understood Mouawad might claim it was a mechanical fault,” 7NEWSTom Sacre said, “citing Mercedes’ recall of possible foaming transmission fluid that could cause a fire. But the carmaker says that’s only a risk in extreme driving situations.”

I'm curious now, anybody heard of such a recall? Given MB's response it seems to be real.

Look the blokes a Fxcken idiot right but surely a clutch shouldn't catch fire like that! There are so many safety features in the car that it should have cut the engine after 10-12 sec of hammering the clutch like that.

Well, being in technology myself and as Rick Cook put it, here's the problem with this assumption.

“Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning.”

Won the car, catches it on fire, AND has to go to court. They are not messing around down there (good for them, sucks for him). Thats a lot of power for 25 years old.
