AWD W205 C63s?

Hi guys,

Has anyone ever explored fitting an AWD system on our cars? Like retrofitting the one from the C43 onto a C63s.

your best bet would be to retrofit the e63s awd system since most things should bolt up. but you may need a new trans and all. and the electronics would be a nightmare to integrate. also not sure if there woudl be room. you may need to modify engine mounts etc.

Sounds more like an entire car rebuilt ...would likely be cheaper and better results if you sell your C63 and buy an E63.

This has apparently been done to a C63 Black Series by a German tuner for a customer in the UAE. In this case they replaced the engine with the 5.5l V8 for easier tuning and the ability to bolt up a transmission with transfer case. The 4.0l V8 already supports the 9-speed with transfer case, but yes most likely you'll have to replace the transmission. Don't think the transfer case just bolts on. Then you need to find room for the front diff and yes, integrate the electronics. The C43 4Matic I'd think is a no-go. It doesn't support the electronic rear locking differential. The C43 has all open differentials and the old 4Matic system is kinda garbage. The E63 and GT 4-door have the locking differential and the much improved 4Matic+ with drift mode. Since all this needs to be integrated with AMG DYNAMICS since it controls the torque vectoring in the 2019+ models, I'd say it'd be expensive. Maybe easier with the PFL since it doesn't have AMG DYNAMICS, but then the challenge is going from the 7-speed to the 9-speed. That Black Series conversion certainly had a hefty price tag.

yea i heard about that conversion and ive also heard of someone on the coding forums say his shop has done an e63 awd 4matic+ drivetrain conversion into a c63. its going to be expensive either way. just buy a big pair of big rear slicks for the 63 and only rip in good weather or mod a 43 to be a 63 power level and handling like i did on my 43. I was really hoping for the new c63 to be awd v8 4.0. but now we gotta work with what we got. Turbos it is!

also
yea the c43 has no e-diffs which is unfortunate but they do some level of torque vectoring with the brakes which also acts sort of like a diff on starts as it controls the slip on lighter wheel. If it was possible to retrofit the 43 awd into the c63 which I dont think it is due to different trans nor would it be worth it, it still would be better than rwd from a dig.

open diff 4matic c43 still relevant this was done on the street on winter tires in Michigan. 1.72 60ft not bad for a cold street.

Prior to the W205 C63 release, Tobias Moers drove around in a prototype AWD C63 with the M177 V8. They decided they wanted to stick to the pure RWD formula and ditched the project. I think it was mostly because they knew an AWD C63S with a M177 would stomp on heavier E63S.

With that said, no one has converted to AWD. I think the only candidate where it could potentially work is on a Facelift C63 Coupe. Not a sedan, and no pre-facelift. You need the 9 speed trans (or at least any tunnel modifications made to accommodate that new trans) as well as the Coupe’s rear end because it’s shared with the E63S (unlike the C63 sedan).

Nothing’s impossible, but I think a facelift Coupe and sourcing a E63S 9 speed awd trans and axles is the best starting point. If it was done in a prototype stage, it can be done aftermarket. Just depends on how deep your pockets are, because I wouldn’t expect a project like this to be less than 30k.
