Common Problems

Would love to hear from members about any problems they have with their C63. I’m in the market, coming from owning 2 Lexus GS models which have been essentially bulletproof. Curious on the reliability of the C63. I was looking at the E53 but am nervous of so many electrical problems.

Besides the odd rattle or buzzing noise from the speaker grill and sunroof, the car has been rock solid so far for me. At currently 16.5k miles on my 2017 C63s sedan.

They seem pretty rock solid overall. I'm only at shy of 19k miles so far, but other than a couple of loose ends from the factory that were solved via software updates, and a few rattles, my biggest issue that required several weeklong dealership visits until it was finally resolved with a redesigned part was of cosmetic nature. Generally this has been the least troublesome performance car I've owned from a reliability standpoint. The biggest reliability issues are really the software, specifically the online services that periodically crap out. Currently my live traffic is only working intermittently with so far no resolution from Mercedes Me, but I haven't bothered with it too much as I'm not really making any long trips at the moment and I can always use CarPlay in the meantime. They are overhauling the app and services at the moment.

However, compared to your 2 GS, be prepared to spend a small fortune on wear items. I'm on my third set of front tires, second set of rear tires. Already had two alignments done, because the front tires had extensive wear due to out of spec toe setting both times. Rear brakes were worn a few hundert miles ago. Replaced the pads, but kept the rotors for now. Had Service B done in January where they informed me that the front pads are down to 3 mm, and the brake sensor actually tripped a few days ago. Getting them replaced next week. I've already received the rotors, just waiting for the pads and sensor. After that I'll be ready to hit up the canyons again now that the weather is starting to get better. Just waiting out the last few rain storms.

I have @40K Miles on my 2016 C63s , and if you see the post and threads , I run my car like its a RACE CAR all the time.. never had any big issues, little things like a rattle here or such.. but nothing that made me second guess my decision to get it.
I drive the car every day , and it keeps up with everything I give it.

ya I’ll have to get use to the more expensive maintenance lol luckily I’m pretty mechanical when it comes to minor services. But I also like having certain service records from the dealer on my cars. I’m a bit picky with that. Curious, what’s the quote on service B where you live?

I don't know what the individual services go for. I decided to get the prepaid maintenance package. My understanding is the services vary in cost, because while they alternate between A and B, they are not always the same as certain items become due for service after a certain mileage. Things like transmission and rear differential fluid changes and spark plugs for example.

I have owned my fl for 16 months and no major issues yet except for 2 annoying ones which are occasional slight rattle/buzzing noise from somewhere around the speaker on driver side door panel which I can fix by pushing the speaker itself or the area around it and what really annoys me is the Mercedes me connection which connects 60% of the time when I start it from home but its fine elsewhere, the wife's a35 with the newer mbux connects 100% of the time and is parked right next to it.

19 fl c63s, 17k kms done, the only major issue is I had spent weeks to identify the clunking noise coming out from the driver side suspension, I was suspected that it was caused by sway bar links or bushing, but it turned out to be engine mounts! I was really surprised they needed to be replaced this early, the SA told me my car was the first one needs to have engine mounts replaced..

With the upper-end models it is harder to do so but just make sure to test drive the specific car you would like to purchase extensively.

I purchased my C63S just last month and had to have the dealer do a transfer for the car. So far the car has; a lot of rattles, high pitch whistle coming from passenger side mirror, high pitch whistle coming from aircap, defective leather in passenger door panel, cut on the front dash edge, front bumper edge under drivers side headlamp wasn't painted, passenger side window weatherstripping keeps coming off window, passenger window switch in the drivers side cluster stopped working.

I am hopeful that the dealer will resolve all of the issues but I have to say that so far this has been the worst car quality wise I have ever purchased (new or used).

Such a shame. I have nothing but great things to say about the quality of all Lexus vehicles I have owned. But sadly Lexus has let me down by being so outdated with their models. Also discontinuing the GS line was the end for me

Sorry to hear you have all these problems but it sounds like you bought a very poorly maintained car.

I know what you mean. I was also looking at the Lexus LC500 convertible knowing that it would be more reliable but couldn't get past things like the infotainment interface or how you cannot turn on heated seats without going through a myriad of menus.

Your the first owner ? how many miles were on car when purchased ?
(curious)

depending on miles, and or if you ordered this car for yourself, it maybe had some pre-delivery issues at the port, or could have been a dealer demo ... lots of options of what it could be..
but definitly NOT the normal for MB build quality.

It had 20 miles on it, it was transferred from the other dealership via trailer. When we picked up the car it was raining so we couldn't do a full test drive; drop the top, open windows, etc. Then again you wouldn't think that you need to go through and test each and everything on the car. I can honestly say that if I knew then what I know now I would have passed on the car.

Sounds like possibly the prior dealership might have had issues or not.. but if your dealership gives you issues, just file with MB North America .. they will assign a case and assist

Thanks for the advice, how would I file with MB?

Oh I also forgot to mention that a large bolt fell out from under the car about a week in as well. I don't know where it came from so I gave the bolt to the dealer and let them know so they can see if they can find where it came from.

I just hope that the engine builder was more careful than whomever put together the rest of the car. :/

Just call em up.. they are always helpful.

The AMG engines are tested etc before being placed in the cars, and so forth..

What you are experiancing is NOT COMMON issues as this thread is titled , something happened, or is up with that.. but in the end , MB takes care of its items..

Yea I would too.. but I am thinking because he says there was PAINT work, that the car had a front end issue or something... but def the dealer should take it up and if they dont, goto MB NA.
MB NA, will ask if you worked with the dealership as well, and will want to atleast see some action on the dealerside..

Yea when I read he had an area unpainted I thought the car had been in an accident before.
He has owned it for a month already and on a new car these problems should be fixed within the first week.

yea cars get damaged during transit from factory, and they typically correct all issues at port and or before being released to dealer.
