What’s this ?

Does anyone know why this P shows up on the gauge? He seems to only be there in comfort mode and it goes away above 20 mph

Parking assist is active. An arrow will appear beside the P when it finds a spot that is suitable for your car.

As stated above, it's the active park assist. Check your manual for more info. I believe you can find a video demonstration as well if you Google it.

I have this 'P' icon light appear on my 2018 C63s dashboard and I don't have parking assist. I wondered what is was for as I didn't find a clear explanation in the manual. I decided it was a confirmation that the forward warning system is active - where your forward speed is is calculated against a moving or non moving object in front of you giving you an audible beep warning to brake. It turns off when you are stopped and turns back on when you start moving.

Depends on PFL or FL. In the PFL it's very rudimentary. In the FL you see instructions and the detected parking spots in the center display and you can select the spot you want to park in. In the FL it can also park parallel or perpendicular, and in case of the latter you can choose if you want it to back into the spot or park facing forward. It can also exit the parking space afterwards. Here's a video from the S Class, that shows how it works in the FL. The PFL can only parallel park and by default it only scans for parking spots on the passenger side. You have to turn on the left indicator if you want to scan for parking spaces on the left. I've used it a few times at the beginning and it works rather well, but I generally park myself. It does come in handy at night in a poorly lit area when I can barely see the curbs.

FWIW the FL park assist is too conservative on tight streets where I live; it won't get close enough to the curb leaving my driver side door pretty exposed if not in the street.

I have mixed feelings about park assist. While I get it, i'd rather it be conservative rather than curb my wheels, I also don't like having to have to manually take over after it's "parked" to readjust it to be more closer to the curb. But the 360 camera that comes with park assist is great with helping to avoid curbing, so the package in itself is worth it for me.
