Always found this channel to be quite reliable. Cant believe the next gen is going to 643bhp though still 4cylinder. Thoughts?

The technology is intriguing. Some things I wasn't expecting. The 643 hp is only for 10 seconds, though and not clear how long you have to wait before you get another 10 seconds, so the usability is questionable other than for launches. Continuous power is 542 hp, which will be about the power to weight ratio of the current C63S after factoring in the extra 200kg of this one. Comes down to how emotional it will be to drive and how heavy it will feel. Those extra 200 kg will be felt one way or the other. I'm not writing it off just yet, but also not feeling like running out to get one. Have to see if the CLK type model with potentially the V8 E Performance is gonna be a reality. I'm not interested in a sedan anyway.

Always dreamt of an E63s Coupe, so a V8 CLK is probably going to be the closest thing to it.
I wonder what they're going to do with the "AMG" 6-cylinder engines that are on the 53 Models

If they’re keeping the V8 and adding this system like Raz says, it’s gonna absolutely scream.

It won’t, AMG confirmed this. The next C63 will use the same exact M139 2.0L that’s in the A45S, except the turbocharger is swapped out for an electric turbo from the AMG Project One. And now it’ll have a electric power with a large battery back over the rear axles with e-motors that can distribute torque front and rear (AWD).

It’ll make about 440 HP engine only, have about 90 HP on tap at all times from the rear electric motor (530-540 hp), and an overboost function that adds another 100 hp or so of power from the rear electric motors for 10 seconds of about 640 HP.

It also weighs a confirmed 440 lbs more than the W205. It’ll probably be as quick as a stock W213 E63S. Low 11’s at 124-126 mph is my best guess.

Good luck tuning and tinkering with this one boys... glad I got to play with my AMG before they went all F1 on it.

I believe he was talking about the W214 E63. It sounds like it'll get this system with the V8, although that might become the E73 and the E63 may only get mild-hybrid. The AMG guys definitely drank the kool-aid here. Conveniently no mentioning of the weight it adds and the fact that the battery sits rather high, so not exactly good for the center of gravity and where is all this space coming from in the final car? Trunk will probably be quite a bit smaller. They are touting the 50:50 weight distribution, but keeping quiet that they essentially achieved this by adding 400 lbs to the rear of the car.

Exactly I was literally quoting a post about the E63. Trunk space is definitely going to take a huge hit, and I very much believe these systems will be incredibly hard to tune going forward. Not to mention the weight.

440 lbs MORE than what our cars currently weigh now... Not exactly confidence inspiring. I'm sure it'll go great going straight... But what happens when you want to turn?

Yea ive made up my mind...4 cylinder cars (pretending to be sports cars) is where I draw the line regardless of how fast they are. Got an A35 AMG as a loaner the other day and didnt really care for it. Felt like how small engine cars with a big turbos feel like. Was it quick? Yes. Enjoyable? Not really. Ill go full electric or to a M3 Comp (assuming theyre still being produced) when Im ready to give up my 2017 C63s...

Or just grab the next-gen E63 (E73?) which will keep the V8 and add all the electric goodies. That thing is going to define "monster"

To be fair, the e-turbo and the electric motor will hide the shortcomings of small engines with big turbos, so I expect this to be responsive and not have the lag that these small turbo engines inevitably have, but the question is will the drive be exciting enough even if you are not going full bore. That's the part that will determine this. Tooling around in a 4cyl sewing machine isn't particularly exciting. I end up leaving ECO start/stop on in every 4cyl I've ever driven, because they just sound horrible when idling. Maybe that's intentional to keep us from wanting to turn off ECO start/stop, haha.

Funny how the Project One has an actual F1 V6 engine that makes 750 HP engine only. Not an off-the-shelf 4 banger from the lowest level AMG you can buy. Add the 480 HP or so produced from the front and rear electric motors and full output is projected to be well over 1000 HP, upwards of 1200+ with the project one.

AMG will try to draw comparisons and tie in their F1 technology by boasting about using the same e-turbo as their hypercar, but the truth is the new C63 is going to weigh as much as the current gen E63S. Moving to a 4 cylinder was not for weight reduction or for better performance - AMG decided to reserve the best for the next-gen e-class AMG, GT 4-door, etc. while the C-class gets a lame 4 banger from the A-class, and electric F1 tech that no one asked for.

The C63 is a German muscle car, to add F1 tech and increasing it to an absurd weight, it’s going to be a tech show off. There is no hiding 4500 lbs when you start tossing it into corners - you can’t hide inertia.

Sounds pretty awesome if you ask me. Will be immense.

On the plus side, W204's are propping up the bottom end, the W206 will cost close to 100k with options and the facelifts will be the last of the V8 with a recent sprinkling of tech. I don't think the W205 is an investment, but I don't think it will depreciate as bad as its predecessors, the sentiment on this thread confirms it.

Same here, when the time to update my 2015 C63S Edition 1 comes I think I'll move up to a Porsche Taycan or Macan unless something better comes up in that time.

I had a Macan GTS and it’s a very nice suv but it can’t compare to the C63S which I now have. Taycon is a whole different animal. Nice but the range is disappointing.

I am torn on the new C63...lots of nice technology and likely will perform great. But what gets me excited is the potential of an E73 with V8 plus the same F1 technology and e-motor making 800hp+. Best of both worlds. I would prefer it in the smaller C-coupe but if it has to be an E I will switch. Also, I am getting excited about the EQS and the lower end derivatives. Tesla watch out. Taycan already showed how to make better electric sports sedan that actually performs superb and looks the part...the MB line of e-cars look to be stuffed with nice tech and from what I see look 1000 times better than the exterior or interior of the Tesla's. Sorry Tesla - great company and great battery technology and AI software, they are pioneers...but its not a car company by heritage who knows how to make high performing, luxury cars. Once Porsche and MB catch up, and of the looks of it they are catching up fast, there experience of actually making these cars for ages will prevail. JMO.

The horses are now in the barn, 2019 E63s
I recently watched the RBR
about the AMG GT73 and there was NO mention of e-turbos, just the EDU and 2 speed gearbox.

I had such high hopes............

Well, the V8 with its hot-V biturbo setup has much less of a need and moreover not enough room to cram two e-turbos in there. Small displacement turbo charged engines have much bigger and more noticeable turbo lag. because they need to make more boost to generate the same power as the double displacement V8. There's no replacement for displacement. Still holds true to this day.

They have a lot of catching up to do. Infrastructure is a big deal and the supercharger network is nothing to sneeze at.

800+HP 4.0L TT V8’s and electric power is great and all, but you can get a Plaid Plus Model S with 1100+ HP, run 8’s in the 1/4 mile, and 0-60 in under 2 seconds... for $140-150k.

When it comes to acceleration, they have a lot of catching up to do because frankly those plaid plus numbers are faster than a 765LT. And the W206 with all that added tech/weight isn’t exactly going to be a featherweight canyon carver. The W205 wasn’t even close to it at over 4000lbs for the Coupe.

Problem with these "performance" EVs is that if you continuously use their performance you are not getting far on a single battery charge plus Tesla has yet to show that they can keep their batteries from getting too hot and having to degrade performance. You'll be spending all your time recharging the battery and cooling it. EVs have crazy numbers on paper, but they don't have the energy density to actually sustain this performance. A 765LT can go all day with a few minutes of refueling every so often, even if it's a bit slower. If it was a high speed race over a long distance it would get there first. The EV Cannonball Run with the Taycan took almost twice as long as the fastest ICE Run.

Agree on the point they have catching up to do on Infrastructure but they will. Eventually, charging stations will be universal just like gas stations - has to happen for many reasons and will.

On performance, yes, but just like ICE engines there were always super cars out there to show how fast you can go. 911’s were never the fastest 0-60 cars but sure sold more than the Koenigseggs of the world. So, it’s not all about 0-60. Look at the Tesla plastic interior, their continues quality issues etc. There is more to a car than 0-60. If I would have to choose today I would take the Taycan Turbo S anytime. The thing is Tesla is foremost a battery, AI/Software company and cars is their way to sell their technology today. But they are not a premium car maker.
