For those who haven't seen it already, the 2021 map update is out. Didn't get a notification email this time and the OTA updates seem to be down. The whole Software Updates section has been removed from the portal. I'm guessing a new version is forthcoming, but the map updates are available for manual download.
Is this only for FL cars? I need an update on my PFL bad!
Yes, FL only. For the PFL you have to make an appointment at your dealership. The first 3 years of map updates are complimentary either way, but only the FL has online map updates. I believe there are some third-parties that sell map updates as well once you are past the complementary 3 years. For the FL, I believe we can just renew the subscription after 3 years and continue to get map updates as part of the paid subscription.

Right under the services. It's the only thing left at the moment. Only applies to 2019+ models with Mercedes me connect. mBrace cars don't support online map updates.
I went to the website and downloaded map updates to a newly formatted flash drive... but when I insert the flash drive into the c63, it states update cancelled / unsuccessful.

This happens after you start the update, or right away? Maybe a corrupt download. I did get a new message this time that I never got before. After it finished the installation I left the SD card in. Usually I take it out while the system reboots as in the past it wanted to do the update again after the reboot, but this time it said that there was an obsolete update and it cancelled. Made sense, but it was different from previous updates. However, what happened this time was that while the manual update was running it actually started to download the OTA update at the same time, but paused its installation. The message might have been about the OTA update being obsolete now, which also makes sense. I did verify the map versions afterwards and all the regions had the correct version. Maybe give it another shot with a fresh download?

I'm wondering if your vehicle was downloading/installing the map update for your selected region OTA when you inserted the flash drive which caused the OTA update to cancel. After seeing this post I checked my vehicle and it had automatically started installing the OTA update without notifying me. Other times there was a notification that popped up in the COMAND system notifying me of a new update being available and if i wanted to download and install it.
I'd try removing the flash drive and reinstalling it to see if it allows you to install the update then.
I just learned something -- when you view your vehicle in the Mercedes Me Connect portal / map updates -- you can clearly see that the vehicle only performs an over the air map update of ONE region only. To update all of the regions you have to do a manual update (SD card map data download from the Mercedes download manager then transfer the SD card to you car). I'm in the process of doing this now - all of my map versions have updates available Hope it goes smoothly!

My next question is -- can I use the same map update SD card in both vehicles or is it somehow tied to the VIN and I need to do a separate download for the C43? hmmmm
No time to try the C43 with the same update card, however the complete version 21 update on the C63 went perfectly - no issues.

I initially tried a NTFS formatted flash drive. Downloaded multi-region maps, successful download. Turned car on, plugged in, detected flash drive, then immediately unsuccessful.
Reformatted to exFAT, same thing. Turned on car, plugged in, immediately unsuccessful.
Then today, reformatted back to NTFS, downloaded only my specific region, successful download/install. Turned on car, turned off auto-update, plugged in, and it began to update.. failed again at 82%. Unplugged USB, plugged back in, same message over and over, unsuccessful, failed.
So for now, I'll leave it as is I guess.. I dont use the maps anyway (use android auto), but it would be nice to update the maps nonetheless.

Might wanna try restarting the system. Press and hold the volume knob in the center console until the system reboots. You can also try an SD card. Maybe the thumb drive or the USB port is bad. I always use an SD card since the update takes a while. It pauses when the car is off, and resumes when it's started, so I just insert the SD card and leave it in until it's done. It's a more secure fit than thumb drive sticking out.

You can have multiple vehicles under one account, and then each vehicle can have multiple users each with their own Mercedes me account, so your fiancé would use her own account and then both of you get a profile on each car and can have your own personalized settings.
While car was in for warranty service dealer updated my map for free. 2018 PFL C63s.
The PFL also has 3-year complimentary map updates, but the updates have to be installed by a dealer. The difference with the FL is that the updates can now be installed by the owner or get installed automatically via OTA for one's home region. Once your 3 years are up, you gonna have to pay several hundert dollars for the dealer to update your maps, whereas with the FL one can renew the subscription at a much more reasonable price.

Yes indeed I was aware of that option, however when we bought her car she went off with the sales guy and set the car up with all of her personal info through Mercedes Me, so I didn't really feel like going through the set up hassle to switch it to one account I do know that I can add users to either Mercedes Me account, but again, at this point it's just as easy to log in under different credentials. Thanks though --- I thought about the personalized settings thing and see where in Command you would set that up (and it even tells you you have to have Mercedes Me set up) -- but I don't change anything in the car except the seat and mirrors - and that's just push a memory button - we keep both cars the same otherwise really

Just go to http://me.mercedes-benz.com, then Manage Services and then Online Map Update. The site looks different now. It was redesigned since this thread started. If there's an available map update for your car it'll give you an option to only update your home region or do a full map update. Click on which one you want and follow the instructions. If you don't have the download manager installed already, it'll give you an option to install it. You need to insert a compatible storage medium such as an SD card or USB stick, otherwise the download manager won't start downloading it. A common issue is if the medium was partitioned using the GPT scheme (GUID Partition Table), which increasingly new SD cards etc. are. You'll have to make sure it's partitioned using the MBR scheme (Master Boot Record).
