How to blackout the "fake" exhaust tips?

Car is actually glc63s but figure this forum is more active and I believe we have the same/similar setup of "fake" tips.

Is plastidipping/vinyl an option? I assume since they aren't physically connected it wouldn't get as hot? Or I could be completely wrong. Don't even see any on ebay, but maybe the c63s and glc63s tips are exactly the same?

Well, they are black with the Night package, so the most obvious solution is to replace them with the ones from the Night package. I know people have done this.

They get extremely hot. A few years ago my wife essentially branded the back of her leg with a nice trapezoid shaped burn while she was grabbing groceries from the trunk.

I’d recommend avoiding plasti-dip and instead ceramic coating them black. There are also several DIY high-temp spray paints that can do the job as well. Check out VHT flameproof coating paint, regular ol’ grill paint, or anything paint that can withstand high heat - and pick the finish you want (satin, gloss, etc.).

VHT is probably your cheapest/best option if you want to DIY. Otherwise, remove the exhaust tips and bring them to a local ceramic coating place to get them done in a nice flat or satin black for that OEM look.

Get genuine ones second hand.

I'm all for DIY but every time someone's repainted set of chrome AMG tips with high heat black paint they looked sh*thouse. Something off about it compared to genuine black ones.

Get a set of genuine Night Edition tips from Mercteil, Kunzmann or second hand from a wrecker or ebay.

Don't get them from CKS.

Not sure how it is on the GLC, but on a C63s coupe they easily come right off by removing just a couple of screws from each side. That’s as long as the C63s has the standard rear diffuser. If the C63s is fitted with the optional aero kit, then removal is more complex as it requires removal of the aero kit rear diffuser before the tips can be removed.

I am actually planning to swap my stock night package black tips for chrome ones since I want them to stand out more.
