I’ve actually just test drove and ordered a Model Y to replace my wife’s VW GTI. As her daily and for city driving I believe it will be a great fit.

We also looked at the Model S and S Plaid, which I was partial to due to the 400mi range and performance, but that yoke steering “wheel” was a dealbreaker.

A lot of people dislike it too. But those that got their car, said that they got used to it quickly and actually like it more due to better visibility. I think it cool. I just wonder how do you turn on the track? 😁

You talk about concentration and active involvement - not different than any other car. Not sure what you actually mean.
What I mean is that the powertrain is a lot more jumpy. Perhaps more so in the FL as even in Comfort mode it starts in 1st gear and has shorter gears, so the drivetrain can be jerky. In stop&go traffic it takes judicious inputs from the throttle to drive it smoothly, and you have to hold back unless you want to spin the rear wheels constantly and TC cut in. As the saying goes, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than it is to drive a fast car slow, and the C63 is more enjoyable if you can drive it fast on an open road. Don't get me wrong, overall these are all positive things and I've said before I dislike torque converters in a performance car, but it's hard to dispute that a torque converter in a normal commuter car is smoother around town and in traffic. EVs are the ultimate smoothness as there is no clutch or torque converter and no gears to shift.

I plan to change out tires to All Season from summer tires. Do you use winter or All seasons tires for the winter?
Thanks! It’s a 2018 with chrome delete Model 3 Performance. I have a different 18” set with winter tires for the winter.

Personaly, the C63 is the more premium product.
No offense but you sound like a guy who would park their ICE car at the EV car charging spot.
if you have no experience with EV cars please don’t spam here. Resell value just lol…

For get about quality, look … etc. Let just talk about straight like performances. Tesla set the bar way too high right out the gate. What’s the world is going to do? 154 mph in 9.08 s 1/4 miles

Actually regarding the quality. Yeah, there's some paint issues on my car but is an early build from 2018. Tesla has no rattles whatsoever while my AMG rattles like crazy. And btw my AMG was delivered with paint defects too, it had paint drops on rear fenders.

I like how Tesla will do OTA updates to make it even faster. So 2018 M3P used to do 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds now is updated to do the same as a 2021 which is 3.1 seconds or 2.9 done by some.
Not trying to sound like a Tesla fan boy but I like how different and innovative Tesla is.

Nope, and I'm actually a big fan of EV's, I would love a Taycan if I could afford it, and would totally buy the Honda EV concept car if it were sold here in the US.
Not sure how spending hours in / around them, and having two people very close to me who have owned them for years counts as "no experience".

Mine too. The center panel carbon fiber rattle on every bumps. You barely push it with your finger and it would make noise. My passenger sun visor freaking rattle 😢. No rattle at all in my M4.

Yeah I can see the yoke being great for visibility, and the design feels more sporty in general. Didn’t go for it though because of concerns of it being annoying in daily situations. When coming out of a turn I have a habit of letting the wheel unwind naturally through my hands. Can’t do that with a yoke. Also the horn is a button on the right side instead of center, so if you ever need to slam it in an emergency situation you’ll need to first figure out the positioning of the yoke. Probably a rare event but that seems like an unnecessary risk.

We will see once more of the refreshed S and X are delivered beyond early adopters. Maybe it’s not a big deal. If they offered a wheel option I’d probably would have gone for an S or S Plaid instead of a Y.

There are fairly good writeups on the perils of the yoke steering wheel in the Tesla. My understanding is that it's actually optional, but it's misplaced. Other car manufactures have considered it, but they don't work for actual driving. Yoke type steering wheels are found in race cars such as F1, but they work there because the steering ratios are so direct that you never really turn the wheel more than 90 degrees. This is not the case in road cars. Road cars with such a direct steering would be dangerous in most people's hands. The yoke is essentially in line with Musk's vision that in a few years we won't be driving cars anymore for the most part. It's fine to temporary take control of the car, but only really works if the car steers itself for the most part. Just imagine having to grab hold of the yoke when it's turned in an emergency, or having to cross over for a big turn. Most people who like it must be mostly driving in a straight line.

Nothing Yet
I cross shopped both just this year. Objectively the Tesla is faster as others have said here but I cared more about the experience. In many ways, the Tesla is a better car but I wanted something with a focus on fun. For me, fun is something with a good exhaust note, something that can slide a little when I want it to, the ability to personalize and customize, and something that keeps me engaged in the act of driving. Teslas, for me, are not that fun. If I had a long commute on a traffic filled highway, I'd probably be on the Tesla forum right now discussing my vanity plate but fortunately that isn't the case.

2018 amg c63s
hey guys i'm new to the forum.
I got the 30 day money back option when I bought a 2020 model s from Carmax, and it was returned after a week.
The steering wheel, ride quality and overall comfort were deal breakers for me.
I am now waiting on my C63S to be delivered.
Hopefully I like it as i only got to test drive a c300. You all have lots of good info on here.

C63 AMG
I have a Tesla Model 3 Performance and getting a C63 on Thursday (had the older W204 back in 2010).
I'd be very surprised if the C63 is quicker than the Tesla from a standstill and rolling upto 50-60mph and the C63 will prob only pass once into silly speeds - I can tell you next week though
I've had BMW M3's, Audi RS's, Nissan GT-R etc etc but honestly, I love the Tesla and its been faster than all of them. Its just effortless at any speed and the speed is switch-like and totally instant at any speed.
Just 2 years ago, never did I think I'd be driving an electric car but they are terrific for around town and longer trips.
Handling wise, its not as good but its much better than i thought it would be.
Looking forward the the C63 though.
