So I am trying to remove the exhaust muffler section myself and want to get as much information/tips as possible before doing it. Do you need to take off the rear bumper or the diffuser section? I ask because the muffler pipes actually extend into the fake tips. It is also quite hard to get at the exhaust hangers. Any tips on getting that off? Should I remove the clamp first before messing with the hangers or the other way around?

I just installed an AWE track edition. Didn't have to take off the bumper or tips for removal of the stock exhaust or installation of the new one. Most of the underbody panels have to be removed/loosened up though. There is a crossbar that needs to come out and the bolts are under the side panels, was able to reach them without removing the panels completely, but had to remove all of the "inside" bolts/clips then bend them down to get to the crossbar bolts. The oem midpipe/h pipe is quite long, while it's not too heavy, it can be a bit cumbersome, so I'd suggested having an extra set of hands around especially for removing that part (whole thing is much easier as a 2 person job). Invest in a set of exhaust hanger pliers, totally worth the ~$20 in time saved. A squirt of WD40 and some man handling gets the new exhaust into the hangers relatively easily. I unbolted the mufflers from the exhaust, then took the mufflers off of the hangers. Allowed me to angle the muffler down and pull it forward out of the bumper/exhaust tip. I was lucky enough to borrow a lift at my friends shop before he opened for business, so it went pretty quickly.

I only have the AWE system, no other exhaust mods. It sounds good IMO, its a deeper tone than my non-performance stock exhaust. It's not crazy loud, noticeably louder than stock though, especially on cold start and under heavy load. When you're just cruising, it's a nice deep grumble without being obnoxious, I'm happy with it.

I need to swap out my stock AMG PE mufflers for set of spare identical mufflers I've got. Just the stock rear mufflers.
Would you recommend undoing from the rubber hangers first with the hanger pliers, pulling out the mufflers towards the rear tips in order to disconnect them out the mid pipe?

The stock exhaust just uses the "ball and socket" type flange, there might be enough play to get it out while the hangar is still connected. I'd definitely loosen up the clamps connecting the mid pipe to the muffler first (you can get them loose enough to slip over the joint). See if you can slip them away from each other while the muffler is still on the hangars, that way you're not having to hold the mufflers up. If you can, probably easier to do that. If there isn't enough play then you'd have to disconnect the hangars, slide toward the bumper to clear the midpipe, then slide out toward the front. You can also loosen up the tips from the bumper and move them around to get any clearance you might need, just 2 torx bolts on either side to loosen up.
I replaced the whole system, so i just took the midpipe off first, then mufflers, reverse for the install so I didn't have any real clearance issues. Also, it's been a while, so the above is just a suggestion based on what I remember. Good luck with the install!

You're a godsend man, took your advice and got those exhaust hanger pliers. It made taking the mufflers off so much easier.
The outer hangers were a bit fiddly but managed with needle nose pliers and silicon spray 😁
