DIY or "Pro" black out chrome

I would really like to black out the side and rear chrome badges on my C63S and have looked at a few DIY products, but wonder what the success rate is with this stuff....also wondering if there is any difference in what product(s) DIY vs. "pro" would use on this job? And my biggest gripe - would love to black out the big front center MB emblem as well but that probably can't be done since it's emended in the radar housing?
Any feedback appreciated!

Are you talking about wrapping or replacing the chrome badges?
If replacing and if your OCD like me about the correctness of the spacing etc then I would do it yourself. Just take your time doing it, could probably buy 2 or 3 sets of badges (incase you fkd it first time)with the money saved from not getting it done by a shop. Can't say anything about the center MB emblem as I left that as it is, I think it gives nice contrast with my blacked out grill and I got my black badges from ebay.
Removing the badges is quite easy to be honest. Outline the badges with masking tape then mark where each letter sits on the tape, then get a heat gun or hair dryer and heat the area up and you can remove the badges. People say use dental floss but I used a trim tool to remove. Once you get a side of a letter lifted you can just slowly remove the rest with you hands. Reheat area if needed.
The side badges were very easy to remove, you can pretty much pull them off with fingers when its been heated. The rear amg was the biggest PITA cause it left alot of residue but the c63s was not as bad. Rear star emblem you will need to slowly and carefully pry upwards as close to center as possible on each of the “leg” parts of the star, it should slowly come out but becareful not to pry out the anchor/plug as you can reuse them, if they pop out a little once the star is removed just push them back in.
If you do decide to diy it don't forget to clean the area and apply some quick wax or paint protectant on the area.

I had thought wrapping was the best option - however I'm open to different ideas - thanks for your input!

No worries!
I had only the chrome bars on my grill wrapped 2 years ago and they are still like new.
I can't imagine wrapping all the badges though, would be a major PITA with all those creases and edges.

As noted above, buying new black badges is the cleanest, cheapest and best option. As it pertains to the grill, I think swapping it out for gloss black is your best option to avoid chipping of paint or rock chips in a wrap (plus it would be a PITA to wrap). Door handles can be wrapped for cheap and look good if professionally done.

I just bought mine from ebay and replaced them. Pretty simple. They look great and were legit.

I looked on Ebay-- most of what I see is gloss black and the descriptions suck (some say plastic / chrome / metal all in the same sentence!) -- can you offer a link to what you were happy with considering we're got the same flavor paint!

anyone ever try to "dip" them via plasti dip? I have seen so many you tube videos doing both matte and glossy, but have never tried it myself

yes absolutely. Search automotive gem. Made in U.S.A. and shipped from Texas. Received mine quickly. Granted a little more pricey but you can choose from gloss or matte.

+1 to automotivegem
Bought 2 sets from him. Only thing I can say is the square part of the red/black S badge was I tiny bit smaller than oem but rest of the badges were identical.

How about hydro dipping them.....then they can be any colour or pattern you like. Black carbon for example.

Other forum members have tried it with success.

MIne are all gloss. I was considering Matte, but the "s" for matte was the pre-face lift version. So I ended up doing all gloss which ends up going with the rest of the black accents anyhow.
