C63s, the good sounding one
Michelin Super Sports

Requesting feedback from anyone who has experienced howling road noise from recently purchased Pilot Super Sports. I put new tires on a few weeks ago and immediately noticed excessive road noise. It sounds like a 4X4 with mud grips. I specify “mud grips” because I have a 4X4 with stock tires and it rides very quiet. I have purchased multiple Super Sports over the years for multiple vehicles with great results.
*Michelin investigation has been pending 1 week with no feedback yet.
*Stock size
*Have confirmed tire pressure multiple times.

Are they mounted to spin the proper direction? My PS4S tires are quieter than the stock run flats. I am now on my second set (newest ones installed last week).

I'm pretty sure the PSS's are bi-directional and can spin in either direction.

My PSS are noisy. I have had them on my GTS, ZL1 and C7 GS and they were noisy on those as well.

There was somebody else who experienced the same thing. Do a search. Personally, I have not experienced this with the PSS, but I've moved on from them to the PS4S after the original tires were worn. I've had them on a couple of previous cars, but after having had the PS4S on my previous car the PSS is a noticeable step back in road noise, ride comfort and handling. I wouldn't say the PSS has excessive road noise, though. I had the Pirelli P Zero originally on my previous car and that tire got very noisy at about half wear. The PSS was significantly quieter, and the PS4S even more so. I generally recommend to move on from the PSS to the PS4S at this point. I'm getting a new set on the front as we speak. Car is in the shop. There's now an MO1 variant of the front size for the coupe, but they are on back order (2-3 months estimate), so I went with the standard PS4S again.

One more thing now that I just went through putting on new front tires. Did you get your tires road force balanced or just spin balanced? I highly recommend you get them road force balanced. While it isn't specifically addressing noise, it does ensure that the wheel and tire are rolling as round as possible, instead of being slightly egg shaped. The latter can cause vibration, which then could cause noise, too. Road force balancing will also pretty much immediately root out defective tires. If the tire is defective, it won't meet the road force numbers of 20 lbs or less. The smaller the better. I just went for a quick break-in of the new tires. Once again I can't seem to get shops to correctly inflate the tires. Found them all at about 30 psi instead of 33/32. I knew picking it up that something wasn't right. Front tires looked a bit flat, steering was strange and there was more road noise than I was used to with new rubber. Now with the correct pressures it's all good and car drives perfect again. You can really tell on these when the front tires are shot. Quite a difference between worn and new tires.
