Downpipes

Owned my C63s for 3 years and still loving; think it time to do some mods to it. Thinking of starting with downpipes and was wondering are there any brands that offer downpipes that will keep it legal and still pass emissions?

*****Several companies like RennTech, Meisterschaft sell downpipes with cats on them - there are options in terms of catalyzing medium (200,300,400 cell, etc..), etc... depending upon brand I'm not familiar with Emissions requirements in your area but here in Washington, DC area we have only an OBD check and a visual inspection under the car versus a sniffer or full dyno roller test like in some areas. The OBD check is to insure there are no emissions related codes on the car, and the visual is I guess to make sure you have something that looks like cat convertors on the car - they don't put a temp probe to see if anything is in the convertors and the guys doing the inspection don't seem too concerned as long as something seems to be there. There are other options and brands available, and perhaps others chime in, but I am familiar with the two brands mentioned above.

My setup has secondary cat deletes and special spacers on the O2 sensors to help mitigate the possibility of check engine lights, fault codes, etc.. since I have the secondary cat deleted.. You can do a search on this and see options folks have done in the past. The spacers need to be replaced or adjusted on occasion if you get a CEL light or there are programming/tuning options available to eliminate the problem. Folks that drive their cars a lot seem to have to replace the spacers at some point versus guys like me who have lots of cars and rarely drive the C63s. So far so good for my setup..

I think RennTech has complete CARB approval and they have an excellent reputation with respect to providing products that work as advertised, no CEL lights, etc... I have not seen the RennTech ones advertised in some time so don't know if they still offer them, but have seen them before and they are really well thought out and built. They are probably made by another company for them as several other products they have are, but do not know their source.

My downpipes are by Meisterschaft and I have 200 cel cats on them with spacers. I'm happy with them, have had my car dyno tuned pretty extensively, and have other mods that lend themselves well to having downpipes (bigger turbos, etc..) as an upgrade.

Good luck whatever you decide.

RENNtech downpipes are available for the C63 / S. Our downpipes are made out of stainless steel and have 200 -cell sport cats, no CEL light after install, and all our downpipes are made at our headquarters in Stuart, FL.
Our ECU tune for the C 63 has CARB approval, but the downpipes do not. Give us a call, we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

*****Nice. I've seen your downpipes before and they are very nicely built and finished. I didn't see them on your website, but am glad you still offer them. I have 200 cel sport cats on my setup and so far no CEL lights. The downpipes I have are not CARB approved either but the visual inspection in my area is very cursory and there is no sniffer test on newer cars - they only do an OBD hookup test to check for error codes related to emissions I guess. My 2018 C63s had no problems passing the test, and the tests are good for 2 years.

Cheers

No aftermarket downpipes are going to be able to pass emissions. But you'll probably get a tune with the dp's that will help you pass emissions.
