Exclamation Help: Rear Bumper - has anyone removed one?

Hi,

Long term lurker, first time poster.

C205 C63S Facelift.

Someone bumped into me in the car park a while back, and didn’t leave a note . The paint and bumper is fine, but now there’s a small gap between the rear right taillight and the bumper (see first photo). I pulled out the taillight to see what’s happening and I thought I found the issue - there’s a tab on the bumper that looks like it’s broken off (yellow circle) and maybe should engage with the large black tab in the bracket (red circle), I have four tabs (blue circles) engaging with slots in the bracket. Here’s the issue though, after hours of searching I found only one video online for removing a coupe rear bumper - and that video has this tab removed on both sides of the bumper (third photo).

So here’s the question: for any Coupe owners who have removed their rear bumper, is there a tab here? Does it engage with the black clip on the bracket? Or do I have another issue here…

Thanks in advance. This misalignment is driving me nuts.

Any advice is appreciated, Helix.

Bump. Anyone?

Looking for any coupe owner that’s removed their rear bumper. I’m desperate!

Cheers.

I haven't removed the rear bumper before, but I highly doubt a misalignment would be due to a missing tab. Especially, since in the pics it looks like the other tabs are equally spaced, I doubt there would be another tab so close to an existing one. The fact that the others didn't break and only this one did, which is exactly like the video, is also suspect.
I think the support under the bumper most likely took the hit and that part is out of alignment.
Sorry, I know it's not the answer you were perhaps looking for, but when the girlfriend asks if her butt looks big in a pair of jeans, sometimes you gotta explain to her its not the jeans... And you don't really mind that it's big, but that's not the answer she's looking for.

😂😂😂

Thanks for the reply, guess I’m going to have to pull the bumper off and see. I’ll post back here when I have so there’s at least some info on the coupe rear bumper for others. Cheers.

****Yea. Pull it off. I've done the front before and it wasn't that bad. You might get lucky and see that nothing major is really damaged or that loosening the clips, re-attaching and re-installing can get you 99% there in terms of alignment, etc.. It sounds kinda wacky, but I have fixed issues like this with an extra washer or two or some kind of spacer and everything looked fine from the outside. Things were certainly easier when bumpers were made of real metal versus covered with a plastic fascia like now. It was easier to align stuff and if a bumper filler was broken, it was more easily replaced than what we have now.

Good luck

The forum suggested this post to me as a related link, not sure if you saw it too.

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...umper-gap.html

Granted its a C class sedan, but Mercedes tends to keep clips and bolts roughly in the same place to make it easier for their builders and mechanics I guess. If you zoom in to the black bumper, you see it has the same indent where you think a tab is missing. So I don't think the problem is that... But at least the good news is, nothing is cracked and you don't need a repaint 🙏
