pre-FL Heat Exchanger Screen / Grille - Protection?

Unfortunately due to the state of roads here in the UK, there is a lot of debris and other junk especially in the winter months.

I’m wondering if there is a solution to protecting the OEM heat exchangers as a relatively cost effective preventative measure?

I believe the GTC or AMG GTR has an OEM Part available A0995030400 - has anyone fitted this to a MY17 C63?

An alternative would be using some kind of mesh and DIY it but if an OEM part fits then great!

Anyone got any advice or experience? Is there anything else I should be looking to protect at the same time (aside from front end paint :-/ )

Thanks

Hi mate,
I am in the UK and unfortunately had my intercoolers punctured twice! I have the protective grills for the FL for sale. A099 503 02 x 2 and A099 503 01 x 1.
I brought them direct from MB but due to a mix up they do not fit my Stage 2 coolers that I brought (I decided against OEM replacment) so they are unopened and sitting here.
PM me if interested, but I personally would fit these to any Pre FL asap.
Cheers,

Thanks @brennis63 - I will research how these are fitted and whether or not they will fit a pre FL car.

Ideally I don’t want to have to remove too much from the car to fit but if it’s a bumper off job I think I might have to fit a Panamericana grill at the same time

Ill do some digging and PM you if they’re of interest

thanks

Yes they do 100% fit the pre-fl (that is why I brought them) they come fitted as standard to the fl cars.
Fitting will be a bumper off job- so yes, makes sense to do in one go.
Cool. Let me know.

I did the following with a 2016 C63 S sedan:
- found a suitable patterned/sized aluminum screen product
- made a heavy paper pattern that fit the front grille area of concern
- cut the pieces of screen product via the patterns
- used zip ties to attach the cut screen sections to the existing exterior grille
... no front-end disassembly. Sorry, no longer have the car and don't have any pictures ... but it didn't look bad, at all.

If you search, you'll find a company that sells a screen product that has hex openings and has stated airflow characteristics. It's a good choice. If you track the car, you really do want to pay attention to air flow.

On closer inspection, it does have them after all. I was expecting some mesh sat just behind the grille rather than sat directly on the radiators.

Anyway, GLWS
