Dashcam draining battery - spitting out error codeS?

Hi All,

Own a 2020 c63s - i've recently installed a Blackvue dashcam which is wired to the cars battery - set at 12V cut off

The other day my wife was driving and it started to spit out error codes such as;

Active Steering Assist inoperative
Steering malfunction increased physical effort see owners manual
Steering malfunction stop immediately see owners manual
Lane keeping assist inoperative

So she stopped the car - parked on side, turned off and waited a bit then turned back on and all was good

Today when i sat in the car it said;
12V battery See Operators Manual

Turned on no issues and no repeat errors as above

I am thinking the original power steering errors were due to the battery dropping voltage and the car freaking out and spitting errors? Is this common or possible - car is under warranty so will be taking to workshop to make sure however any tips or maybe i should connect the dashcam to an external battery. Wife was quite scared at the time

Thanks all.

I had to double check the url to make sure I was on the correct site. 😝

Yes the battery on this car is a very critical component, and runs alot of features. It also by my experience drains fairly fast when the car is switched off as many system are running such as convenience lights, outside lights, the radio and screen until you open the door, the parking brake etc.

You said your car is 2020, so 3 years, depending on how much its been used, could be time to change it... Also consider getting a trickle charger to keep it maintained when the car is not in use.

Letting the dashcam drain the battery down to 12V is too low. I had the attached document squirreled away but don't remember where it came from.

If you use the parking mode on the dashcam(s), you might want to invest in an auxiliary battery setup using a voltage-sensitive relay to isolate/connect/charge the aux battery. I did this with my C63 S and I've attached the circuit diagram, in case you are interested. I used a multi-safer switch because the dashcam didn't have it's own/built-in low-voltage cutoff, so you could eliminate that part.

In December I got the same on dash message:
12V battery See Operators Manual.
My car is a 2019 C63s coupe with just over 22,500 miles and 3 1/2 years old.
The SA convinced me to bring it in which I did without an appointment.
. The test results were the battery was not ok.
Surprisingly the

dealership replaced the battery under warranty. I waited for the car and was there about 2 1/2 hours.
See photo above.
