Trickle Charging Using Battery Terminals?

I'm hoping this is a simple question for you guys... my C63 isn't used as much as I'd like, and due to the way the car is parked, it's very difficult for me to run my trickle charger to the front terminals under the hood as I have to park the car, then try and manoueve round to access the terminals... it's really tight as the car just about fits in the space I have.

I want to keep the battery topped up, so I was wondering if anyone is using a trickle charger by connecting it to the battery in the trunk directly? I thought I read that this could bypass some kind of electrical system or possibly stabiliser or something?

I have searched but drawing a bit of a blank, and can't even find the thread where someone said connecting direct to the battery would bypass some system....

Thanks

Mine is parked up for the winter, hood is open, tender connected to the positive terminal in the engine bay (under the plastic flap).
Found a bolt to connect the negative terminal near by in the engine bay.

This has been working well since November 2022 for myself, last thing I want to deal with is a dead merc battery ughhh.

Let me know what you end up doing!

Thanks Shreddie - I'd like to be able to use the hook-ups in the engine bay, but it's just so difficult to get around the car.... unfortunatley that is European parking spaces for you - so I'm fixed on basically having to use the terminals on the battery directly...

What others have done is install an O Ring adapter that's long enough to run it to the other side of the car or hidden behind the grill, so you can then easily connect the trickle charger. Another option is a 12V socket adapter, but those only work if you have an unswitched 12V socket in the car. I don't remember, but the one for the rear passengers might be unswitched.

Just for reference

Since the C43 was parked so much during the pandemic, I installed a charger plug, wired directly to the battery terminals (via a fuse, of course). We continue to use it if the car will be parked for more than a day or two, just to help extend the life of the battery. I used parts available on Amazon and installed the socket in the lower part of the front license plate. I painted the rubber socket "lid" using the factory touch-up paint and it adhered very well.

on my 18 C63s (sedan) i have it hardwired to the battery in the truck similar to o-ring adapters above - keeps the battery nice and new all winter long -
