C63 w/PTG Unexpectedly Bad Track Times

I have seen a few threads on this but wanted to engage others with upgraded turbos to help identify what went wrong.

I have a 2017 C63S with brand new 285 P4S’s, PTG 1000 turbos, street valves, catless DP’s, and PTG Carbon hi-flow intakes.

I took it to a test and tune yesterday and had wildly horrible times. I surprised myself at how slow. It was an 1/8 mile track, pretty cold and overcast 45* ambient with 80% humidity. I was just trying to find the sweet spot but never got it. Any/all input would be appreciated.

1st Run- 42psi tires, no burnout, Sport+, power brake to 2000rpm, ran a 8.41 @93mph. Reaction .77 60ft 2.26

2nd- 38psi tires, turned traction off but couldn’t get it to burnout (user error?), Race mode, power brake to 2500rpm, ran a 8.21 @98mph. Reaction sucked 1.3 60ft 2.21

3rd run- (wife accidentally threw away slip) 32psi tires, Sport+, traction off, launch control on, ran a 8.01@97mph.

all runs had wheel hop like crazy down the track until 3rd gear.

I feel like I should accidentally be in the mid 7’s, I hit PTG up but haven’t followed up yet, it feels tune related, top end pulls super hard but low end 1st and 2nd is sluggish like crazy. Anyone have Experian what works for them?

I'd say your 60' time being so bad is the problem, but I would expect you to be running faster times with those mods. I am not sure what that setup should be good for, but the bigger turbos could be limiting your low end power as they spool? On an 1/8 mile track you don't get to really open it up on the big end of the track. However, you did end up trapping 98 mph in the 1/8 which seems decent. The 93 mph runs are odd as that is about what my bone stock C63 (non-s) did when I went to the track, albeit on a 1.85 60'. Link to my post on my 1/4 data

Do you have a way to data log your car? If there is a problem you may not be able to diagnose it without some data for your tuner to review.

Try this:
- race mode, suspension comfort, Sport T/C (if you run a slick rear tire, turn off T/C)
- heat tires (nice burnout)
- brake boost to around 3k RPM (don’t use L/C)

I have the same power mods on my coupe (plus cooling, colder plugs and PTG TCU tune). Also, 285’s aren’t helping you. I’m running 305 PS4S and blow the tires off halfway through 3rd.

Do you have any dyno numbers or 60-130 times? Can try to compare to mine and see if you’re in the wheelhouse of power expectation.

PTG1000’s are probably not the best for a short track, rather roll racing. That being said, you should be able to extract more performance and better times.

good points, I know the timing was abysmal. They had a new tree that had a different rhythm than I am used to running so it just felt weird. As for data logging for the tuner I have an Autel that will do the trick.

much appreciate the response. I have their HKS colder plugs as well I just forgot all about them. I haven’t had it in a Dyno yet but I’ll definitely get one scheduled. With your setup how do you get a good burnout? Mine just didn’t seem to want to. It revved high and torqued up but I didn’t get any spin

race mode, traction fully off, fully depress on brake, give it some throttle. It will roast the tires. If you leave it in automatic, it will shift up through the gears. You can also go manual, and upshift through 1st into 2nd.

You also may want to try dropping pressure to 28-30psi on the rear tires, for maximum traction. Obviously increase when you leave the track.
