Secondary Cat Delete

Looking to remove my secondary cats on my PFL C63S sedan and a shop quoted me $1160. Is that reasonable? Looking for a deeper throatier, not raspy, sound. Anybody have any recommendations?

I'm in the same boat you are- just more so curious if this throws a code, which after hours of research, I'm 90% sure it doesn't - but would really like to have the other 10%, for peace of mind. lmao.

But, 1200$ seems insane, you could buy downpipes for less than that....

The place I called that would do it, said it would only take 1.5 hours-- so I'm figuring maybe 300$?

Will update once I confirm with them this week.

definitely shouldn’t throw any codes. The O2 sensors are before the secondary cats so we’re in the clear! $1000 to cut the secondary cats is also insane in my opinion. Other shops have quoted me at $250-$300 per pipe in the NJ area. So $500-600 total. Getting it done tomorrow will update u about how it goes. Can’t wait to hear how it sounds everyone from what I’ve read says good things.

Nice bro!! Yes please update tomorrow, I am setting an appt tomorrow so you'll have yours done before me!

Isn't it just technically one pipe being replaced though? There's two pipes?

Ooohhh, you're talking about the secondary resonators? Sorry I have a CLS550, probably the same setup. Regular cats and then straight piped. Sounds amazing. Actually kind of tame until you get on it.

Two pipes, two secondary cats. It's a V8. Each bank has its own exhaust. The two pipes are also connected with an H-pipe and a valve that opens in Race mode, maybe also S+

Christ, thank God I asked, I want to go into this exhaust shop and make sure I know what I'm doing.

Swiss- so just to confirm, when I tell them "secondary cat delete", that means they remove both cats- I'm assuming one on each side? Then replacing with straight pipe, on both sides? Thanks again brother- I know I ask you a lot of questions. Lmao.

just got the secondary cats removed. Sounds GREAT! Get it done asap. Wish I had done it sooner. Sound doesn’t come across on camera or any videos you’ll see at all…. In person it sounds AMAZING. Nice deep throaty sound. It’s a very noticeable difference when you’re on the throttle, otherwise it’s nothing crazy loud just cruising. Perfect exhaust note.

ended up paying only $400! Went to a local smaller exhaust shop rather than paying my European specialist $1160. The exhaust shop I went to did a great job no leaks and the welds weren’t bad at all. Paying $1160 just to cut off the secondary cats was just crazy, too much. At the end of the day they can always be removed and the cats can be welded back on

Love it bro- absolutely. I'm bringing mine to a basic exhaust shop too, not paying the premium at Euro specialist.

Also- what size straight pipe did you get? Wondering what size I should tell the guy to use?

I didn’t take any measurements honestly bro. I had them measure the pipe after they cut it and made sure the pipe fitted nicely and flush.

I would just make sure you specify to them that the pipe fits perfect or even watch them so they don’t cut any corners.

So brought her in this morning to a local shop- the guy looks at it for 5 minutes, comes back and says there is no secondary cats... only "manifold cats".

He then proceeds to say he would recommend doing an X-pipe and delete the mufflers.. I'm like yeah no bud. All for 1100$ mind you.

I've tried to look for the OEM exhaust component setup and I can't find it anywhere online. Can anyone do the Lord's work and assist? I feel like I would have to bring that in to a shop and tell them exactly where it is. Lmao.

Called two other shops, first one was clueless, and the second one goes "no, I don't want to lose my license". Not sure if he knows he's in FL, where there is no inspection. Unreal.

That’s unreal lol. Hate when people give recommendations. Do what I ask and that’s it. One shop also tried convincing me to do a muffler delete and said “nobody does a secondary cat delete” “why do you want to do this?”. Ridiculous.

the standard W205 C63S exhaust setup is :

primary cats > secondary cats > h pipe > mufflers

I would give plenty of shops calls. I also had a few shops say “that’s illegal” and refuse to do the work. It was a pain but def worth it once you get a shop that’s willing to do what YOU ASK.

I’m not sure how to upload videos on here… so if you want you can shoot me a DM on IG @C6IX3S and I can send you a video I took of my OEM exhaust setup while it was lifted.

My guess is you will have increasing difficulty to find somebody willing to do it. The EPA is going after tuners and exhaust companies. They slapped a diesel tuning company in Michigan with a $10 Million Fine in 2022 and there are several others that have been fined.

Found another shop that will do it, guy sounded promising, but finding someone competent- is a different story. Will update Friday. Lmao.
