Filling Up Secondary Coolant

Hi all,

It appears I need to fill up the secondary coolant reservoir in my 19 C63, as it looks to be slightly low (see pic). I am planning to buy the Zerex G40 antifreeze off FCP Euro, which I believe to be the OEM spec for the car. Is that correct? (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...zerex-q1030005).

However, it looks like you have to mix distilled water with it since it is concentrated? I'm assuming it's a 1/1 mixture, but does anyone know the actual size of the smaller tank for reference? Should the tank be completely full when cold?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yeah it should be mixed at 50/50 and when checking on a level surface it should be at or near the full mark. When was the last time the coolant was changed? If you are just topping off you can probably get away with adding distilled water if you live in a warmer climate.

Yes it should be full at cold you can top it up with plain tap water you don't even need distilled. I was told this by my service advisor when I first got the car and have been doing it this way for years no need for distilled water.

Thanks. I went and checked the level at cold and I’d say it’s probably around 40% filled. Does it absolutely have to be filled to the top? I’ve heard people saying it can be halfway, 3/4, etc. I’d obviously like to not overfill, and would rather be safe than sorry.

I did find a 50/50 G40 antifreeze mix at my local car parts store (link below). I’m assuming this would work just the same as the non-diluted mix from above?

Thanks again for the help.

Yep G40 is the exact one for our cars.

For any Australians searching the Penrite RED OEM is for our cars and are MB approved 325.6 here: https://penriteoil.com.au/products/r...nt-concentrate
