Engine problem warning... fuel problem?
Maybe someone can lend a hand here... I have seen a previous thread on the need to use 98 octane petrol in a C63S but comments differ on the consequences of not doing so. I have been using 95 and get an orange engine problem alert on the cluster after consuming one or two tanks. Power output drops and engine response worsens. These appear to be typical symptoms of using lower octane than recommended. But the engine failure alert? The dealer's test rig signalled a combustion error on cylinder 1 and they proceeded to replace the ignition coil and ack the alarm. The alert came on again after 1000 km, and this time the dealer replaced the 8 sparkplugs and checked compression (OK at 12 bar). They emptied the fuel tank, topped with 98 oct and have been driving the car around for the last week, with no more engine alarms in sight. Does anyone have this kind of experience and comment?
