Hey yall. Just got a great ‘23 C63S coupe with low miles. However, it does not have front camera, only rear. This is a bummer to me, and I’m wondering if MB dealer can install OEM camera, after the fact……thoughts?

Do you have a c63S? I’m a ‘23 owner, went back to AMG V8 after several other cars, mostly bc of the sound. The exhaust note coming off that V8 is like no other!

 

Enjoy the V8, reason why I didn't get the C 63 S because it snows 3 seasons out of four here in Canada... (Pretty much).

A few thoughts on the topic. If you only have the rear camera that means the car is missing the parking package. So that also means you have no parking sensors. All you have is the by law mandatory rear camera. The parking package adds the parking sensors and the surround cameras. Not only is there a front camera, but also side cameras in the mirror housings for a full 360 view. The camera images are one thing, but even better are the guidelines that actually tell you where to stop or help with lining up the car to a curb.

Installing an aftermarket front camera just gives you a view out the front with no guide lines. A dealership won't retrofit anything, so you'd have to find a third-party retrofit specialist. However, retrofitting the parking package would be a major operation. New bumpers, grill for the sensors and front camera, new mirror housings for the side cameras and then wiring and coding everything.

 

Thanks! Turns out my solution to this is to trade in my C63S for one with the parking package and the navigation so I’m all set. And it has better wheels! I’m excited! Thanks guys!

Yes the wheels are much better and this car has the equipment that any discrerning AMG enthusiast would want, or so I’m told! And the blue is fantastic! The black and white seats are gorgeous but I am a little concerned about the white getting dirty. Maybe I can treat them.
I’m likely to wrap it in glossy black at some point, and I’m thinking about adding a bunch of carbon fiber, aero mods

Technically speaking, the wheels on the gray one are better. Those are the forged super lightweight wheels from the GT R. They significantly reduce unsprung weight on these cars. Some people do find them problematic on really bad roads as they end up cracking them. I like them better optically, too, because of the recessed spokes with lip design. Shows off the fat wheels in the rear. The pictures you posted aren't very favorable. That car needs a good wash and has rusty brake rotors. They look good in motion, too. The wheels on the blue one are still forged, but they are heavier and the spokes are pushed out like on skinny wheels.

 

Oh that’s really interesting. After all is said and done I do want or need front camera park assist and navigation. But that’s good to know

 

…..what I should have said was “I like the looks of the wheels better”. Which is true. Just a personal preference. But your insight and knowledge is very helpful

 

One more question along this line….would you say that an AMG missing Park assist front camera with the warning sensors as well as missing navigation would be a real turn off to an AMG enthusiast?

 

Let me put it this way. Curbing nice wheels and ripping off the front lip sucks, so I'm sure glad I have the 360 camera. I have the aero package, which looks like both of the ones you posted have, too, so the front lip can easily be ripped off. Good news is that it's easy to replace, but if you catch the whole bumper on a bad day that is not fun.

As for navigation, that depends. The thing is I don't remember if the 2019+ still have Andorid Auto/Apple CarPlay if it doesn't have the Multimedia package. Opinions are split about the built-in navigation. I like it and it works very well for me. I also always have the map up on the center screen even if I'm not actively navigating, but to see the traffic around me, so I can take alternate routes based on my local knowledge. The must have for me was the digital instrument cluster. What the built-in navigation has over CarPlay is that it takes advantage of all screens including the HUD if you have it to show navigation related information. CarPlay/AA is confined to just the center screen. So just like I have an ultrawide monitor at home so I can have multiple apps side-by-side, being able to do the same in the car between the instrument cluster and the center screen is certainly something I like a lot. Besides, I pretty much always get my cars fully loaded. I have the driver assistance package as well. Even AMG drivers find themselves in stop&go traffic at times, so being able to let the car do the driving in those situations is great. I've also done up to 12 hour road trips in a single day and ADAS makes that so much less fatiguing. When I go for a fun drive in the canyons out here, I can use DISTRONIC and Active Steering while cruising there and back and save all my energy for the fun driving, leaving the mundane driving up to the computer.

 

I guess you kind of need it for an SUV, but the C205 is very small and nimble, those are assistance systems anyways and should also do manual mirror check.
