Sway bar replacement

Hi guys

I was quoted $1,200 to replace complete front sway bar. They say need to even remove the engine in order to be able to remove the bar…and It would be a 7-8 hours job.

It sounds weird to me…

Any insight on this?

thanks!

Are you saying the bar and not the links? Anytime an engine needs removal for another job I'm usually skeptical.....is this a stealership or indyshop?

I can say with certainty that the prices at the indy shop I use have gone up as well. My next visit will include sway bar links, that I got a quote of 600 something, that and a fuel injection service too.
I'll be interested to see what other members say about your sway bar/links.

No you do not need to remove engine when replacing front sway bar. There was a guy on here that a dealer was charging $2k per fuel injector. They told him that they need to remove the engine and turn it outside down. I can remove all fuel injector and fuel rail in 30 minutes. All you have to do remove the air box. Go find another shop or just do it yourself

Yep I thought it must be easier than removing the engine

So shop corrected me today saying is not removing but suspending the engine in order to get access to remove the bar

Not sure if this makes sense…

What’s wrong with your sway bar? Don’t you have a 23 FE model? I don’t see why you would need suspension work so early on in the vehicles life

Light clunking noise. We checked bushings are pretty worn

Want to replace it ahead of bigger issues.

Not covered under your factory warranty? Seems to me like an obvious defect from the factory. I would try to get it covered under warranty

So dealer won’t cover under warranty as expected. I will go with my indy…

Could anyone share details on how this job should be done? My shop still not sure how to remove the bar

Thanks!

Take it to someone who knows the they're doing, I'm showing 6.4 labor hours and about $200 in parts from an indy.

Well if you ask them if certain parts are covered under warranty of course there gonna say no to save their a****. I would take it in and say the suspension clunks when driving. Theirs no way a brand new 23 model should have clunky suspension. They are just giving you the run around. If it indeed is true, an the vehicle needs a sway bar then they need to replace the sway bar or bushings or end links under warranty. Especially on a vehicle with less than 5k miles/km on the odometer.

Yes.

It only happens when I turn the steering wheel and the front wheels are on an uneven surface. For example, when I turn into the garage and the left wheel lifts off before the right when I go over a small curb.

Not sure if I’m explaining myself

Hey brother what did the dealership say about it? This will be covered for warranty. What's the latest?

You've ruled out it's not a cracked front rim, right?

That’s odd they need to replace the sway bar. The bushings or end link ok. But the actual bar? That’s BS

mine he front end clinking core bumps. It was a failed strut and collapsed LCA.

I just spoke to my AMG mech this morning about your issue and swaybar replacement on C205 C63 they said no need to drop engine. But subframe has to be brought down a bit in order to pull it out. They've done it a few times now.

Definitely no engine dropping though.

I just can't fathom how your car would need a new sway bar at this age. Please only replace it if it's really needed. And take advantage of your factory warranty. Try and get them to replicate the sound or record it on video and show the dealer.

@Jimmy_c63s Thanks very much for checking that for me mate, much appreciated

I will double check if replacing the whole bar is really needed and push on warranty

Thanks all for your comments
