When I had a very similar thing (about two years ago)....I paid a ton for new bearings. It was a cracked rim.......

So did we...over and over again. Oddly, it was not leaking any air. Reason is bugs me is that a rim is far lower price than what I paid for two front wheel bearings and a drivers side axle (and the other shaft it needed). There is also a chance it could be a broken belt in a tire. For me, I no longer go right to the bearing.

I didn't do a recording from the outside, but I'm pretty sure it's the same issue I had. Do you have the RXC wheels? If so, then it's a known issue with these superlight wheels. They can start to creak/click against the hub. There's actually an IL document for it. The solution involves taking off the wheels, thoroughly cleaning the hub and inner wheel surface and sand the wheel surface. My dealership wanted $500 for it, so I took it to my indy and explained the situation. The tech came on a test drive and then looked at it and agreed the noise is coming from the wheels. They did all the above and for good measure put some anti-seize on the hub and the noise was gone.

What also happened in my case is that I had the noise on the right side fist, and then it moved to the left after putting on new tires. I'm guessing the wheels swapped sides and the noise travelled with the wheel that was on the right before. So if you take off the wheels and swap them side to side, and the noise moves, changes or even goes away, then you definitely have the same issue.

Thanks @superswiss

Interesting, will try swaping the wheels side to side and see what happens

Yes I have the RXC wheels. In my case, sound is much more pronounced when car is well warm, you can barely hear it when cold….

Will check that tomorrow

Any chance you have that IL document on hand?

Thanks!

No, I don't. My dealership found it and some other member mentioned it. When my dealership wanted me to pay $500 to essentially clean the wheels, I thought at first it was BS, but little did I know. I had them initially investigate the steering rack, because there's another known issue with the plastic thrust piece that can wear out and cause a clicking noise. The fix for that is metal thrust piece. The FL may already have the updated hardware, so this turned out to be a wild goose chase. The fact that the noise moved from right to left for me was ultimately the giveaway that the issue is with the wheels and not a bigger issue.

Just swapped wheels and noise still there…😬

@superswiss you had the noise in normal driving as well or just when sharp and slow turnings like me?

Thanks

Did you check the wheel (bearing) for excessive play? ie. rocking the wheel back and fourth (in theY axis) with the wheel bolted up? If so, how did it feel?
Any excessive play here would narrow it down…

Good Luck

Was bearings for me. The sound with the RXC wheels is when I turn lock to lock when I'm at a stop. But a very similar noise is heard when I'm doing 360 in a parking lot and that was the front wheel bearings for me. They tried to lube them first and it didn't do anything.. they still released the car to me and I had to waste my time going back. After replacement of the front wheel bearings, no more noise when turning 360 in a parking lot.

Update

So sound was gone after wheel bearing replacement, but a slightly different sound has now came up…🤔

Looks like it is the wheels issue @superswiss mentioned, we have sand just a bit the inner wheel and brake hub (which had lots of rusty) and the noise has almost disappear

So we will do a thorough cleaning and let see

Update 2

Now I have the same noise in the rear wheels, so will do the same as with the front which solved the issue 100%

@superswiss did this happen to you in the rear wheels as well?

End up being the right front again. We cleaned and sanded weeks ago, this time we’ve done the sanding much more deeply and noise has gone

@superswiss How did you get this done? You remember if they sanded the wheels deep or Just superficial?

Sorry I’m coming with this over and over 😬

I don't know how deep they sanded them, but they also put anti seize between the wheel and hub.
