CL55, because it is an AMG. Or, go with a new C63 AMG with the P31 development package, 174 MPH baby!!! 481 HP!!! No stupid 155 limiter!!! ( I know it isnt the same class, but for a new car at $70k fully loaded, with full warranty, that will outrun a cl 55, that does 174 MPH and 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, quarter mile in 12.0 flat or better, whats not to love???)
Fastest production sedan in the world! (This is my next car!)
The C 63 AMG is reportedly the first AMG-Mercedes designed from the ground up for performance, as compared to previous AMG cars which essentially featured "bolt on" performance modifications. Car and Driver tested the car in their December 2007 issue and recorded a 0–60 mph time of 3.9 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12.3 seconds at 116 mph (187 km/h).[33] This made the C63 AMG the quickest 4-door production sedan in the world at its debut!
In 2010, Mercedes-AMG introduced a new "AMG P31 Development Package" for an extra $6,050, which ups the power to 480 hp (360 kW) compared to 450 hp (340 kW) for the standard model. Top speed has increased to 174 mph (280 km/h). When equipped with this package, the C63 AMG features a revised ECU and crankshaft.[34]
For the 2011 model year, a limited-edition C63 AMG was introduced by the Mercedes-Benz Specialist Products division, dubbed the "DR520". This is the most powerful version of the C-Class to date, with a power rating of 520 hp (390 kW) and 480 ft·lbf (650 N·m)) of torque. The DR520 is exclusive to the UK market, with production limited to only 20 units.[35][36]
Sorry for going off topic, I got a little exited!!!

Unless the C63 gets the ECU tune also, the 174 mph speed OEM is also limited! I also think you are going to need more than an ECU tuning on a Cl600 to beat a new C63 with the p31 package; the car hauls a*s!

thank you all for the education. more and more i am starting to realize that money is not everything (i started realizing this about 2 years ago). i've lost a lot of money and have made a lot. i've dismissed the concept of auto depreciation from the larger scheme of things. it is really not that big of a deal. if money is really tight, one can always buy the right car used, at the right time, and get rid of it at the right time. i'll stop blabbing now, its 2:45am.

i own a few benz coupes. my first electronified was a 2006 cl500. in comparison to all my other naturally-aspirated coupes, it is the best by far. a pleasure to drive. and if one uses the manual aspect of the tranny, it is no slouch.
then i acquired a 2006 cl55. now, there was a horse of a different color. with its extra horsies and torque, it could slice through the moving chicanes of obstacular traffic on toll roads and interstates as if willed only by thought. no need for the go pedal.
i have been looking for a cherry 2005-2006 cl65 or cl600 in my favorite colors with my favorite options. so far, i have missed one or two by a day or two.
which is propelling me to add a v12 ferrari to my garage.
i wish that the cl55 had been offered with the seats of the cl500. much more comfortable. and with the wood/leather steering wheel of the cl500. i hate the dictated hand positions on the amg wheel.
the most interesting difference between these two cars is that the supercharged variant allows for the go pedal altering handling. making it closer to sports coupe. as opposed to the cl500, just a coupe.
still, in my appraisal, the 215's are the last elegant coupes[cars even] from daimler. the 216's are ugly. and years from now will have no recognized aesthetic value.
as opposed to the 126, 124, 215 coupes.
hell, i even like my 1997 140 coupe from an aesthetic pov.
but that might just be me. relishing the sacco years.

My theory is that corrosion builds up on the interface between the wires and the pack. Switching the wires mechanically cleans this corrosion. The corrosion is due to the unlike metals plus the high voltage pushed from the packs to the wires. thus there is a diode effect and the pack is trying to overcome this "short" leading to premature failure.
On my CL, the packs are epoxy potted so they should be very durable. However if the pack has to drive a diode it will eventually fail.
When I changed my plugs I had a cylinder 3 misfire so we changed pack 1to3 and thus had to switch out the plug wires from the packs. The problem went away.
I wonder how many coil packs were replaced when trying the wire switch may have been the trick?
