Buying 2001 CL600 Brabus

I have an opportunity to purchase a 2001 CL600 Brabus. I know about the CL 600 but what is the Brabus, is it just add on parts or a complete package?
The car has 17005 miles and was not cared for very well, has some stone chips, a speaker grill missing and damage to the rear lower panel just above the exhaust pipe. I made an offer on it for $56,000 but am wary about the big cost to maintain and the cost to bring the car up to a good level of quality.
I have a '99 CLK320 Cab now and it is in better condition then the CL but I know the CL is more of a car then the CLK.
What do you think? Should I consider the car?
Do they all come with Comand?
Regards,
Ed

2001 Lorinser Edition CL600 (SOLD)
Smile

Ha, small world! You live across the valley from me. I'm in Summerlin! I have an '01 Lorinser CL600 I bought back in '03. I'm only going to have it for about another 8 mos. when my lease is up, then who knows what I'm going to get - perhaps the new S-class or CL. I'd let you have mine, but I want to enjoy it a little longer until all the new cars come out.

Anyway, if you can get the Brabus for that price, that's right about what the car's worth in today's market. Brabus has a very lean aero kit compared to Lorinser. By lean I mean it's very subtle; front spoiler and rear apron/exhaust, no side skirts. They are better known for their performance and cosmetic interior enhancements, although, both Kleemann and Renntech deserve first place in the engine mods dept.

Is this a local, one-owner car? Is the seller offering an extended warranty? Does it have 20" rims? Any engine mods? The Brabus kit is ok, and if you were to buy the car separate and add the kit, you'd put another $10K at least. My Lorinser kit would've cost me another $15-$20K installed, so I waited until I found a seller who had the kit already done. This is the best way, as kits depreciate worse than the car, and sometimes can even devalue a car if it's not tasetful. Brabus and Lorinser have the 2 best aero kits on the market IMO. And yes, your car comes standard with Comand. Funny thing is, I've never used it once since I've had the car, as I don't travel with the car outside Vegas. 17K miles is pretty darn low for an '01; I'm surprised it's not in better condition! Have you done a diagnostic on it? Does the seller have all the books/records?

Warning: Get an extended warranty if it doesn't come with one; I would've gone out-of-pocket over $20K in repairs if my car wasn't under warranty. I purchased an aftermarket warranty for the remainder of the lease term just in case!

Is the car you're looking at similar to this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=31852

Are you paying cash for the car, leasing, or getting a bank loan? The reason I ask is that will play into the price you're buying it at. If you're paying cash, I wouldn't offer more than $48K, for example.

Good luck with your decision.

Yes it is a small world, so you like your CL very much. I have always liked them but their high cost kept me from getting one. The car is at Henderson Chevrolet, the owner traded it in on two Corvettes. I am sure I could get a extended warranty, I don't think I would like to purchase one without it. They said they would put the car up on a rack for me to inspect, that would be OK but I would rather take it to the Service Center on Sunset and get their input.

What is on the car? you can put a brabus badge on it and call it "brabus" because well.... it does have a brabus part on it... the badge...

Or it can have a bored out engine built by brabus, brake system, wheels, spoilers, etc. Slight difference there... what is on the car that is brabus? you need to find that out.

The dealer does not have a clue on it, frankly neither do I. I looked at the front end and it is lower then a regular CL600 and the wheels are canted outward toward the bottom. I do not think that is a good sign. If you could tell me some spotting fetchers that may help.

why don't you go to brabus's website, and lookup all the mods and pictures of the CL600. Take a close look at everything. Then go and see what the car has. Does it have that red engine cover? does it say 6.1? does it have the wheels? look at the brake calipers... what do they say on them? Look at the exhaust... it it quad tips? drive it and see how it feels compared to a regular 600.

I took some pictures last night, looked under the hood and inside, it looked all stock. The only modification I see is the lowered suspension...not good.
I will take more pictures today if you guys want.

Not brabus wheels, Looks like it has Brabus add a lipp rear bumper, Stock oem exhaust, The rear brakes look pretty neglected/beat-up, Has Parktronic, need more pic's from side, front, interior--Brabus also does multiple interior pieces..From the only quarter side shot you provided, it doesn't look lowered Besides that she looks very clean

Welllllll, after looking at the new Corvette the Chevy place had I decided to get the CL600. Funny, they offered $53500 on the internet site. I went there and finally made a purchase for $50,500. Traded the '99 CLK320 (sad to see it go) and walked out for $30,500 plus costs and tax. I found out the car is not lowered, it has level control. I is very happy!

Ed

Congrats on your 600 and on the price! I know you'll love it like I love mine - at least until the 07 CL comes out. Make sure and tip the valets well here to get the top spot; you know how they are. The joints where I see most of my twin brothers are Palms, Bellagio (west valet), Paris, and Hard Rock. That jerk Wynn purposely built the casino so you can't park out front; even the Lambos get stuck in the garage which I hate. Probably wanted it that way so he could be the only one to show off his Enzo in his showroom and get away with charging folks admission in order to see it. In any case, I'll be on the lookout for your Brabus and will challenge you to a race on the 215 ))

BTW, I will be having my suspension adjusted AGAIN at the Fletcher Jones out on your side on the valley. There's one guy there that's the bomb when it comes to tweeking the suspension computer.

Thanks, CLFREAK. I wonder if the guys here on this side have improved since I was there 2 years ago. There are some real good ones there if the management leaves them alone. I am going to purchase a new cel phone tomorrow so I can have it intergrated into the car. It looks real simple except for any programing that may be needed. The mikbox will deliver the extras to make it like a factory install.
