Help with Side Mirror CL500

My CL500 passenger side mirror had an unexpected encounter with a mailbox this weekend. It was low speed while I was parking. The top of the mirror assembly is scratched (touchup paint should do the trick). The other problem is upon impact, the entire assembly is off track now. I have about 1/2 inch gap between the weather strip and the mirror assembly. Bottom of the mirror is more loose than the top. It did it's job by breaking away, but now it won't go back as it should. I attempted everything to get it back on track, but had no luck. Has this happened to anyone before and is it an easy "do it yourself" fix? The power operation and retraction work fine by the way. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Exclamation

I'm having some issues with my camera, but until I get the pictures posted, has ANYBODY had their mirrors knocked out of place in ANY model Mercedes? Has anybody attempted to take the mirror assembly apart and if so, was it a fairly easy task? Again this is for a 2001 W215 (CL500) passanger side mirror. ANY help would be greatly appreciated . I want to avoid the dealer and bodyshop bc I think I'm able to do it myself.

Also, aren't the side mirrors made to break away upon impact ?

Thanks!!!!

All taken care of. Removed the cover and bent back the metal clip that secures the the mirror assembly. Very solid now and doesn't break away easily like before. Not 100%, but 98% for sure.

hey man i have a similar problem where a valet clipped my mirror in a parking garage and didnt say anything and i didnt realize till later on. mine wont stay open or fold out but all other functions work like folding in, mirror adjustment, blinkers, etc. it just wont stay in the open position, it flaps around almost like theres a spring or clip that needs to be tweaked, reattached or something

im gonna take the cover off when i get home later, i just wanted to know if the metal clip you are referring to has something to do with the break away feature or the metal clip that actually holds the cover onto the mirror assembly?

thanks matt
