Yes!
I paid a total of $1100 to replace all rotors and brake pads. My pads were at about 10 percent in the rear and 40 percent in the front. I made sure I replaced them as well as my tires (Continental Extreme Contact from Dunlop SP 9000s). Well worth it as long as you do not drive too aggressively.

Did the $1100 include labor?

My car is going throgh the same phase.

The last time (last month) when my car went to service, they quoted me $1500 for the parts front and rear rotors and brake pads including install.

I called parts 1 week ago, and they quoted me about $127 each front rotor, and about $97 for each front brake pads. shouldn't be much different for the rear.

I figure I might as well just buy the parts and install in some other place. Midas, Big 'O' Tires, would be just fine.

Well, I bit the bullet and went for it; all 4 rotors, brake pads, sensors, no squeal kit, and brake cleaner came to $872; labor was $500 for 5 hours. Total: $1372. I took my car to Fletcher Jones here in Vegas, the 2nd biggest Benz dealer in the U.S. (after Newport Beach). I was shocked to learn the labor was $100 an hour. This was the first time I had to pay for something outside of the warranty. Thank God I purchased an extended warranty to cover the other stuff I had to have done! Is $100/hr common now for service??? I didn't want to take it to a mechanic I had no dealing with but may have gotten it done cheaper.

Not necessarily bad. My dad works for Chrysler and is very knowledgable about fixing cars, etc. He has done the brakes on all of my cars....BMW, Lexus, etc. He could not do the CL for some reason, forgot what it was, so it may not have been as simple as just doing it yourself like you would on any other car. I believe the manual also states it must be taken somewhere due to the hydraulic brake fluid or something like that.

I changed my pads this last weekend. I've done it on my other cars plenty of times (BMW, Lexus, Corvette) and have never had an easier job than the CL500. I spent $250 on pads and sensors and completed the entire job in less than an hour (including the "first timer-figure it out penalty"). I also measured the rotors and all four measured in tolerance so I didn't incur that cost this time. The engineering for simplicity of pad replacment is amazing for this car.

Don't be scared to do this job. It's a breeze!

Are the sensors easy to locate and replace?

Great information! We need more posts like this. BTW, is the $250 for pads full retail or did you buy them from one of the MB dealers that gives discounts?
