CL500 Front suspension noise ?

I have one issue with my CL.
My 2000 has 50K on it now.
When you get in the car. It "creeks". Up front on the left.
You can hear it a little in "Summer Mode" when going slow as well.
Seems like when you turn ABC off and on. It goes away.
I normally leave it on.
But now its getting worse. My S/A at Caliber says they need to replace
a strut ? So taking it in for its "A" and the "creek" on Tuesday next week.
Extended Warranty will cover. But going to have to live with a loaner
for a few days.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. And what causes it.
It reminds me of my old Chevy needing a Lube.

Did they get it fixed?

I have the same type of noise from the front end of my '03 with 40k mi. I just took it in to fletcher to get checked; I thought mine was possibly related to the power steering unit???

I'd like to hear back on what happened with yours. You've got the ext. warr. I hope.

Those noises in our CL500`s

Mine is at Caliber today.

They gave me a "POS" C230 as a loaner.
This car is made for midgets or little kids.

My noise happens when you sit down and get in the car or take a speed bump
at low speeds. You can put your weight on it up front and it will do it too.
It sounds like a grunt/creek.

So this morning. I get to Caliber. It wont do it. My S/A knows me well and heard it when I did my "B" in Oct. last year. So hopefully they fix it.
I am not going to put up with this noise any longer.
Nothing like pulling up at a "Valet" with a noisy CL500. NOT.

I hope yours is not your ABC pump. If it gets louder as you rev the car up
thats what your noise is.

Good story! Didn't you almost know it wasn't gonna make that noise when you brought it in!!?!!

It sounds like yours is definately suspension related (even just from sitting down in the vehicle?!!)

So we do have a similarity in that our problems are intermittent-the car decides when the noises happen. I think my problem is related to the power steering system because the noise can be prompted in certain low speed steering situations irregardless of bumps etc...

Has Caliber been good to you or is it just the fact that you have your contact there that keeps you coming back?

I hope your ABC doesn't need a pump replacement, I have a two trusted contacts for non-warranty MBZ work. They are solid guys only using factory parts w/o the padded labor rates.

Let me know what Caliber did to fix it.

Good Luck!!!

CL 500 Noises

Just talked to my S/A at Caliber. Robert Rodgers.
Really good guy. Great communication.

They are keeping it overnight.
Usually it does its "noise" every time in the morning.
Getting new pads and my "A Service" as well.

Had bad experience at Laguna Niguel. So been going to Caliber since.
Good people. Good service. Get that feeling I am getting some "love" at
least.

I went thru a ABC pump last year. Extended warranty picked it up.
Normally like $ 3500.00. That was the only major issue my car has had.
It started making a "whining" noise that followed RPM. Impeller was going.

Will post a reply when I get it back tomorrow

Unhappy Mystery Noise

Well, I got my CL back this morning.
Since its so moist and rainy this morning it does not want to
make its normal creek/grunt in the suspension up front.

SA said he thinks its a ball joint. They lubed it up.
But I am sure it will start again when the weather gets hot and dry.
Going to keep the digital camera in the car. Next time it gets bad, going to
record it in video mode on the cam.

Thinking of trading up for a SL55 soon. I have had this car for 2 1/2 years
and ready to take the next step up. Looking for a used 2004. Low miles.

Why you?

Well that just plain sucks-I hate unresolved issues; you can't "wipe" them from your imaginary "to do list" in your head!!!

Good idea with keeping a camera close by.

I found my '03 through the auto trader w/41k mi. @$46,995 plus tax; well kept, and no accidents.

I looked just for fun and there aren't a lot of 04's (most people 3 year lease) yet but there were some nice 04's for 69k with 20-30k mi. I think you're making a smart move. Do you have to have an 04 for any particular reason?

Damn Noise

Your right. Unresolved issues suck.
Especially when you make an effort to get them resolved.

Thanks for the link.
But I am going to get a 2 seater. Time for an "SL AMG"
Since the kid is 21 now.
The "Ex" is long gone finally.
Going to get an "SL" and maybe keep my "CL" as a daily driver.

Thinking of getting this beast.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...=en&cardist=17

Think I can get them down to about $ 80K for a 2005.
Went and looked at it last night. Going to take it for a spin today/tomorrow.

Sssss L 55!!!

bltserv:

Oh, SL 55... Veeerry nice. In the ad the car looks brand new!

You'll have the best of both worlds in one garage.

If you have the patience, there is nothing more fun, I think, then the process of finding your deal especially the actual discovery of the vehicle you know you are going to take home!

In a lot of ways it's just like dating chicks to find the "woman of your dreams"...then she starts sputtering, things just don't seem the same, and the warranty runs out and so the process begins all over again!

Enjoy the Hunt.

Unhappy CL500 Noise still doing its thing

This is the only issue I have with this car.
That and the bubbles in the glass on the side windows.

That noise is so sneeky. If its humid. It wont do it.
Hot dry day. It gets real noticeable. When I took it in
for its 50K service. It would not do it. Its like it knows
when its at the dealer. Took it to dinner the other night.
Girlfriend asks me why I have not "fixed that noise".
So I have the camera and am going to record it when it
does it next time we have a Santa Ana wind and it gets dry.
My SA says its common in CL`s. But wants to let it get worse
so he knows he fixed the right part. Oh well. Car runs perfect
otherwise.

Been driving the SL55 more since the weather has been so nice.
No funny noises in my AMG thank god. Just the sound of POWER !

i had a similar problem a few months back, light squeaking noises near the front wheel wells, occuring only at low speeds. Had my Ball-Joints replaced and everything is perfect again. Have you asked your SA to check your ball joints?

Ball Jpints. I think you are correct

Thanks. I will take it in and push Caliber to fix it.
Extended Warranty should cover it. My SA has been dragging
his feet in this one. Going to mention your experience
and get it done. I am sure it is the Ball joints as well.
The car is 7 Years old now and some things are going to wear
out with time. Thanks again for the help !!

I'm thinking ball joints as well, I had one replaced at about the 45K mile mark, same symptoms you describe. It was covered under MB warranty, parts and labor ~700 in Chicagoland.
