Don't buy the car without a warranty. These are very expensive to repair.

I wouldnt buy it.....if you know someone who has a dealership or any type hence having a dealer license...you can go with them to dealer auctions and get (a clean) one for under 20k....reason i bring this up is because my friend who has a dealer license, just this week purchased a clean 2003 S500 with 40k miles for $32k....

I disagree.....the CL is alot more than the S counterparts. I sold my 2000 with 78k miles for 27,500. That was the cheapest I had seen one anywhere too......people were wanting low 30's for ones with 90-100k miles. In other words, mine was probably the only one under 30k.

I don't see you finding one for under 20k and if you did, even at an auction, I wouldn't touch it.

I think 31k for 40k miles is good...take it to a Benz dealer and get a prepurchase inspection done...costs $200. If they OK it, I say go for it.

Trust me (I have no reason to lie about this) you can get them for 20s and below, the dealers buy it at these low prices and sell them at their dealerships for a good profit...

Its a good price.
Get the service history from a dealer or the owner.
Has the ABC pump been replaced yet ? If it has not figure it will soon
Thats $ 3K

But you could do better.
Depends on extras and the extended warranty would be
something to really consider.

My 2000 has 53K Miles
Bluebook is about $ 40K.
I was going to sell mine for $ 35K with extended thru 75K or Feb 2009.
But decided to keep and save the SL55 from some miles.

Shop around. Get the latest year you can afford.
