lug nuts

2003 CL500 AMG wheels, 20,000 miles.

Why would four of the wheel bolts, on EACH wheel, go in one inch and the fifth only 1/2 inch. Tried to remove them but can't even with a breaker bar. I have to be the only guy in Houston to notice how far the bolts go in -- oh well!!

The owners manual is useless for any tech information. I need the torque for the wheel bolts if someone has that.

Thanks

The owner's manual has that spec. Mine says 110 ft-lbs (150 Nm), which is the spec I've seen for all late-model Mercedes.

Are you talking about the height of the lug bolt crown (the part that sticks out beyond the hole in the wheel)? I can't imagine what else you'd mean if you haven't been able to remove them. That sounds like someone has put on a set of anti-theft bolts that look like stock, except for a different model wheel (different wheels take different lug bolts with different lengths of thread and crown). Maybe there's a cap that comes off to reveal a recess for a key wrench.

Thank you for your quick reply.

The anti-theft is a possiblity I hadn't thought of. Certainly will check it.
Thanks again..
