Anyone ever change their own spark plugs?

Can anyone here tell me where they are in an 03+600 motor?

Let me know because the stealership quoted me something like $1,500. I said, "no thanks."

Unfortunately that's about right due to the # of estimated hours for a service tech to complete.

I believe it's about 3.8 hours labor to replace them on that engine. What you would need to do is disconnect the intercoolers and prop them up and out of the way so that you can remove the coil packs. Make sure you DO NOT disconnect the coolant lines from the intercoolers or you will have some major issues when trying to refill the system properly with no air in it. Once you do that, you can replace the spark plugs which is oh-so fun <sarcastic comment>..

How do you figure that? Is 3.8 hours worth $1,500? Are the plugs $87 each?

This is how I figured that the $1.5k quote was "sort of" in the ball park. Looks like they are still about $400 on the high side.

"I just got mine back and they say they want to change the spark plugs in cylinder #2. The coil checked out within specks. The extended warranty does not cover the plugs, they are $10.00 each and if I change them all the labor is $850.00....$1,100 to change plugs...YIKES!
I wonder how hard it is to change them?
Ed"

Granted, the referenced post was from a year ago, but nevertheless, this is where my info came from. Now if the $$ quoted from this post is legitimate, that would mean that it must take more than 3.8 hrs of labor for the N/A V-12 plug change. The bi-turbos ('03+) may be even more labor intensive (as a result of the additional turbo plumbing).
