2003 Cl500

My buddy is buying a 2003 CL500 with 40K KM from a local MB dealership. There is no more factory warranty and he is thinking of buying the extended warranty.

He drove the car and everything seemed OK. He will pick up the car in a few days and sure he will check again before paying. CL is usually fully loaded and it's quite difficult to check everything in a short time. Can you please suggest what he should focus on?

He needs to focus on getting the extended warranty form the dealer. These cars are very tempermental and expensive to get right. It is a great car though.

The dealership should at least give him a CPO warranty for 1 year. The CL is just too expensive to purchase without a warranty.

I few suggestions

1. For sure press for the extended warranty. It will pay for itself in the long haul.

2. Get the service history report. I will bet the ABC pump has been replaced.
Look for electrical issues. Less is best. Check for any and all recalls.
I think there was a dash cluster recall depending on serial #.

3. Verify brake pad and rotor condition and percentage of wear.
4. Same with the tires. These cars eat both brakes and tires every 20K Mi.
5. Check the front end for any "creeking" ball joint wear. Put your full weight on the front and bounce the front end. Listen for noise.

Good Luck
