If they last 100K miles why does MB say change at 50-60K miles?

According to my MB Service Booklet for an '02 CL500, the intervals are at 100K miles or 5 years. The S, SL and CL600's are at 60K miles or 5 years.

Yes, there are 16 plugs. The OEM replacments are Bosch, which is what my old plugs were and I went with the same for the new ones. I heard the replacement interval is 100K Miles OR 4-5 Years. They'll last longer of course, but it's preventative maintenance.

Well I just got back from the dealer with my official Mercedes Benz German engineered plugs! Well that’s what I thought I would get but he handed me the Mercedes boxes (All 16 of them) and I decided to open one up to see what brand they are actually using and low and behold there was the Mercedes logo on one side of the plug and NGK R on the other side of the plug. What do you know Japanese plugs in a German automobile?

I do not know if these are the plugs for the 500 or 600 but he assured me these are the ones for the CL55 with the Kompressor motor.
